we’re back with our next edition of The Wrap feature! 🤝 with in-depth reviews of some of our favourite releases of February, it’s been an incredible start to the year – you can find all of our reviews below ⬇️
Leeds-based country-songwriter Robin Cooper has returned with his second single “Steal My Night“! After the success of his first single last year, he’s back with a more mellow, relaxed track, that delves into the topic of late-night romances. The story that Robin paints is done expertly, with lovely lyricism, over the backdrop of an acoustic guitar, a banjo and a chilled rhythm section – it’s a great second single from him and we can’t wait to hear more!
Bolton indie-rock outfit The Velvetines just dropped their second single “Breathe It In“! Right from the get-go, it’s an upbeat, energetic tune, with a real drive and ferocity behind it; guitar riffs lace the tracks, and it drops away to a moody and intense verse, but opens up fantastically to the choruses, that have a real punch to them – with the rhythm, guitars, and vocals working overtime to create something that’s got a real groove to it. The bridge is a lovely contrast, and builds expertly to the final section – a brilliant track!
a familiar face for us on the Manchester scene, Charley Westing just released their debut single “Kevlar Shirt“! we’ve heard this a bunch live and we love the raw passion of it, and this studio recording expertly captures that element – with a driving guitar riff that gives a fantastic groove to the track, and plenty of space for Charley’s vocal to take centre-stage – plus, their lyrical ability is on full display here, with a real passion evident – it’s a proper energetic and infectious tune, and Charley’s debut album also came out yesterday! well worth a listen!
Manchester’s indie-folk five-piece Bonfire Tide are back with their first single of 2025, “Submarine“! it’s a gorgeously crafted tune, with luscious harmonies and strings around the track, creating a fantastic soundscape, and with delicate vocals from lead singer David that make it feel more like an intimate conversation with the listener. there’s a real raw feeling to the lyrics, reflecting upon the emotions and moments of a relationship. the track sounds fantastic, and we’re looking forward to hearing even more from them this year!
Manchester folk-duo Summerhouse have just released their debut single “Excuse My Issues“! we’ve had them perform for us a bunch, and their music is fantastic live, and this single really ensures they’re ones to watch for the year – it’s a lovely, indie-rock inspired tune, that has a real groove behind it, and with down-to-earth and relatable lyrics, fantastic vocals, and a real drive behind it – we can’t wait to hear even more!
Manchester singer-songwriter BETS just put out her second single “Bury it in my Neck“! from the start, it’s a delicate and intimate atmosphere, with lovely pianowork complimenting BETS’ vocal ability – the drop into the chorus is gorgeous, filling out the space with drums, bass and violin, creating a bigger soundscape, that feels like it’s evolved effortlessly. the track has the feeling of a conversation with a friend, proving BETS’ songwriting ability – it’s a fantastic listen and well worth checking out!
pyncher just dropped their new single “Get Along“! right from the get-go, it’s got an electrifying energy, with a driving bassline and drumbeat forming the foundation of the track, and with a real infectious chorus, it’s a proper singalong tune – the groove of the rhythm ensures that it’s one that’ll get stuck in your head. the contrast of the bridge is excellent, dropping away to a completely different feel, only to suddenly explode into the final chorus – a brilliant listen!
another of our favourites on the Manchester scene, By Wednesday just put out their new track “Off Day“! we had them perform for us in January, and we’re always blown away by their expert songwriting ability and effortless musicianship, and it’s defined brilliantly in this tune. it’s a more mellow and downbeat track compared to their previous, but the drive and feel of their music is still present – and it’s lovely to hear a different kinda tune from them. the lyrics are more personal and passionate, and the flow of the track is executed effortlessly – a great listen!
it’s been yet another fantastic month, with so many amazing tunes being released; plus, so many that we didn’t cover – thanks to everyone who has checked this out, and we hope you enjoyed it! 🤘
