Manchester-based Americana songwriter Lucy Wentworth has returned with another beautiful tune “Whiskey“! With a real mellow atmosphere to it, utilising gorgeous waves of acoustic guitars, pianos and a soft drum pattern holding the track together, it sounds super lovely. Lyrically the track is superb, it’s a great tale conveyed so well throughout and her vocal sits perfectly above the instrumentation to really tell the story here. Well worth a listen, very midnight/AM listening feels! πŸŒ› (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

A beautiful release from Sheffield-based rosh here with the release of their latest single “This Is What You Asked For“! Utilising aspects of folk and jazz to create something lovely and unique to their sound, it’s a really well put-together track with a real sense of focus to it. 😊 the use of the different instruments within the track keeps it nice and fresh throughout, with beautiful melodies running through the length of the song, and rosh’s vocal sounds brilliant on it – amazing stuff. The build throughout to the final section of the track is simply beautiful. Plus, the b-side to it, “Absent” sounds so gorgeous. Well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We featured one of Jack Critchlow’s tracks the other month and he’s just released this new single “I Get Drunk” with Emma Kirsch! The guitar riff is absolutely lovely, and the production around it is spot on – really maintaining that chill atmosphere conveyed with the riff. πŸ™Œ the song is brilliant, feels like a conversation with the lyricism portraying different sides of a story – and both Jack and Emma’s vocals sound sublime throughout the song, especially in that final chorus where they’re really complimenting each other super well. Great song! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve know The Sewer Cats for a long time now, and we absolutely loved their debut EP “Zelda” which we checked out after catching them live – brilliant band to see at a gig, so much energy. They’ve returned with their debut album here “Cute Aggression“, chock-full of lovely guitar riffs, heavy and driving drums, and such powerful vocals from Cass which sound absolutely fantastic. They’ve really expanded their sound for this whilst still keeping true to their signature style, and their no-nonsense lyrics pertaining to modern-day culture and politics really show off their ferocity. What a band, we love the entire album! Well worth a listen. 🀘 (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Manchester-based indie-pop artist SEARBY has just put out his brand new single “I Wonder“! β˜€οΈ to start with, we love the beat of this track, it’s got such a groove to it, and the synths used throughout really give the track such a unique and lovely energy. The use of lead synths is perfect, you can really tell so much has been put into the production on this – and SEARBY’s vocal sounds great over the top of it all. It’s a gorgeous tale too, conveyed super well through the lyricism. The final chorus is huge, and the build throughout is beautiful. It’s well worth a listen – and definitely an add to your pre-drinks playlists! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

The new tune from North, “Recovery“, this is a gorgeously crafted track. The acoustic guitar melody at the start is so lovely, with such beautiful lead melodies over the top, and the vocals sit perfectly and sound absolutely fantastic. πŸ‘Š dropping into the chorus with the full band, really travelling so well throughout the length of the song, it’s brilliant to see – that guitar solo is bloody massive. These are definitely ones to watch here in the North – and the video looks brilliant, such a beautiful concept. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Glasgow-based Joshua has just put out his debut single “Buttercup.“! This sounds so great. Really enjoying the use of his accent in the track, utilised so well and really contributes to the feel of the song. Plus, that guitar melody is gorgeous, the drums behind it only give it even more energy, it’s really well put together. 🀘 his vocal style here is so strong too, the deadpan delivery in the verses are so great, and the chorus is super catchy, with lyrics that feel like you’re having a conversation with him! If this is the debut single, we can’t wait to hear more. One to watch, for sure! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Merseyside-based alternative rock outfit POLKER have returned with a gorgeous EP “Over Words . Ever After“! We’re really enjoying this, there’s so many influences in this, from grunge to shoegaze to singer-songwriter.. beautifully put together to solidify their own sound. The groove and feel of the band sounds top, and the lead vocal is so powerful throughout, really commanding the tracks and giving them such great energy. πŸ”₯ This is definitely a need-to-listen-to EP, a fantastic release that we’re sure are gonna set big things in motion for the band. Leeds-based Lost Hive have brought out their debut single “Confessions“! With a beautiful groove to the track, it starts out on such a strong front, with all the elements working perfectly in sync together. The main vocal here is relaxed and delivers the story so well, whilst still keeping the listener engaged – and the backing vocals only add to this, with lovely contrasts between the both to balance them out nicely. The breakdown is perfect, dropping away to a real soft feeling only to drop back into that final chorus that explodes! The music video is high-octane too, well worth a watch. Can’t wait to see what these guys have in store! β˜€οΈ (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester’s own indie-pop pioneers Foxglove have returned with yet another brilliant single “Lights Off“! Instantaneously dropping into a beautiful soundscape of euphoric-like vibes, this sounds fantastic right from the get-go. The use of space, delay and reverb in this is spot on – really making the use of everything in their arsenal to create such a lovely styling of dream-pop influenced indie rock. Lead singer Abi’s vocal sounds absolutely gorgeous here, the use of backing vocals to compliment her lead in the chorus is class, fantastic stuff! PAVΓ‰ have been on the scene for a while now, and we’ve been huge fans of their singles to date – this EP “Distraction” really brings them all together in a beautiful and such well-crafted manner! With huge guitar riffs, massive rhythm sections to compliment Alanya-Jade’s tremendous vocal throughout, it’s well worth a listen if you’re after huge, powerful tunes. 🀘 There’s even a new song on the EP too, “Cherry Blossom” which we love, super melodic and intricately put together to really relay the lyrics – it’s a gorgeous track and a brilliant addition to the rest of the tracks. Definitely worth checking this EP out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve been in awe of Gen and the Degenerates ever since we heard their first single – with such raw power, huge soundscapes and an incredible vocal from Gen, they’ve made absolute scenes with their music. This EP “Only Alive When In Motion” is insane. They’ve pulled out all the stops for this, every song is a banger and only improving on their already brilliant sound, we’re blown away by it! We knew these guys were going places already, but this release has to definitely set them as ones to watch on the entire UK scene. Each song is unique but maintains that familiar sound we’ve come to see from the band, with fantastic choruses, beautiful guitar licks, huge rhythm to it all.. it’s expertly written, produced and just shows off simply how talented these guys all are. One of our very good friends here at Bread Records, the one and only legend Harrison Rimmer has just put out another single “Rum” in the lead up to his debut album! 🍻 we’ve heard this so many times and we absolutely love it, such a heartwarming track with such powerful energy and it’s fantastic to hear it fully recorded. The country-esque feel to the track is so ideal, and Harrison’s fantastic songwriting is enshrined in this. We love the chorus of this, a real one that we can all relate to – and the guitar melodies just give such a lovely atmosphere to the track. Plus, the music video is a real testament to his commitment to music, taking live footage from some of the many gigs he does each week – one of the hardest working people we know! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

This is the final track from their fantastic EP here from The Battery Farm, “We’re At The Top“! 🀘 ever since we caught them live, we’ve been huge fans of these guys, their live energy is unreal and they’ve got a fantastic bunch of songs under their belt now, a real down-to-earth group of chaps with immense potential! Liverpool-based punks Tits Up are kicking things off in style this year with their debut release “Greatest Tits”! Reminiscent of post-punk and riot grrrl bands such as Bikini Kill, Sleater Kinney and Bratmobile, they’re really setting the bar for themselves with this EP. No-nonsense tracks that hold that classic punk sound and with so much self-appreciation and positivity in their lyrics, we absolutely love this! 🀘 gorgeous guitar riffs throughout, chunky basslines, massive drums, feedback and distortion all over the place, not to mention vocals that range from a delicate whisper all the way to all-out screaming, this is one powerful EP. We can not wait for more (ps we want to see you live. that’d be a hell of a gig!) (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

One of our favourite unique talents of the scene, Hayden J Barlow returned with YET another single, “AL0NE”! It sounds so great, bringing together so many influences, from indie, to folk, to electronic, to soul.. too many to mention. That sub bass sounds so fantastic and really lays the foundation for the track – the electronic synths and little samples really create a layered and unique soundscape to the track; not to mention Hayden’s amazing vocal ability throughout the track. Not only is his main vocal on point, the harmonies are insane, the effects on the vocal are superb and just really shows the talent that he has with his vocal ability. πŸ™Œ we love the end synths in that final section, really showing off the production and unique stylings of his capabilities. What a diverse talent! Well looking forward to what the future holds for him. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

Green Wire are back with a brand new tune, Mrs. Artois! Sounding boss, with that classic indie sound of their other singles, it’s opened up even more for them with elements of ska in that rhythm guitar, lovely riffing throughout the verse, and a bassline that really unites the two throughout the tune. 🎸 we’re massive fans of that synth lead too, it sounds super lush, and the vocals really glide across the track seamlessly whilst effortlessly telling their story. They’ve been gigging across Manchester a lot lately and we expect big things from them! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Morecambe-based Inadequate Flaws have just released a brand new single “SAFTB”! 🏡 it sounds fantastic, with driving riffs, hard-hitting drums carrying the track along, and then a familiar Northern twang to the vocal, they’ve really created a unique sound for themselves with this tune. The imagery in the lyricism of this track is fantastic, really well written, feels like a proper night out up North. The b-side “Sorry” is a proper contrast to the a-side, something that we love. It’s a real introspective and personal track – the strings add so so much to it, and the feel to the track is so melancholic and mellow. What a release! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

A familiar sight on the Manchester scene, Migson Pollock has just put his debut EP “New Meigs on the Block”! It’s absolutely boss to be able to hear these tunes in a studio setting and he’s really outdone himself, really being able to transfer that live feel into the recording. Each of the tracks is unique in itself, yet maintains a sense of continuity across the EP in full – brilliant to see and such a show of his class and talent. 🎸 Migs sounds great on this, vocally and through the instruments, and this really shows how intricate and how much delicate effort is put into each track – well worth a listen. Our favourite has to be “One With The Daggers!” (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

Hartlepool indie-rockers Leopard Rays return with yet another fantastic tune to their belt, “Something Like Hell”! πŸ“Ό following the success of their earlier tracks, they’ve gone for a calmer and mellow atmosphere for this, but with the charm of their usual sound! They’ve been smashing it out across the North East and we’re blown away with how incredible they’re sounding. Huge vocals throughout the tune, lovely songwriting and the band sounds absolutely class, guitar riffs, drum fills, vocal harmonies; it’s a real indication that these guys are gonna go super far. Not ones to sleep on! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Manchester favourite Ayanam returns with a brand new single, following the success of his debut EP a few years back – “Back to Lagos” really shows Ayanam’s mellow and chilled side, a real personal song for him about the joys of travelling and returning back to his native Nigeria. The production on this sounds fantastic, really bringing a sunny and summery atmosphere to the song, and Ayanam’s vocal sounds heavenly throughout the song. 🀘 you can really feel his raw emotion and positivity throughout the lyrics and it’s a real testament to his fantastic songwriting ability! Amazing stuff. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Manchester/Yorkshire-based Deano has just released their second single, “Good As Gold”! β˜€οΈ an upbeat, feel-good tune with lovely pop elements, crunchy power chords throughout, it transcends the typical limits of genre; blending together rock and alternative with more electronic and pop influences to create a real unique sound. We absolutely love the guitar solo in it, and with expertly crafted sounds, personal and relatable lyrics, these are definitely ones to watch on the scene! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

It’s been such a diverse month of music, with genres ranging from punk to ska to indie – absolutely beautiful to see such creativity in the North. Liverpool-based Gen and the Degenerates are back with yet another class single – following their previous releases, they’ve put out a new tune “Wild Thing“! 🀘 a huge anthemic song celebrating difference and diversity, with lovely riffs, massive drumbeats and fantastic vocals from Gen. We love the breakdown, really building up to that final chorus that just explodes into the catchy lyricism we’ve seen throughout each of their singles. Yet another incredible release, we can’t wait to see what 2022 holds in store for these guys! (SPOTIFY / YOUTUBE)

Sheffield-based songwriter Daz Cadwallander has been on our radar for a while now and we were amazed by his last release “On My Mind” – and he’s returned with an introspective and lovely single “When I’m“. β˜€οΈ with heartfelt and personal lyricism, great vocals throughout and a lush atmosphere to the track, it’s a great listen and really shows off his songwriting ability. For fans of The Verve, Seahorses and old school 1990’s indie vibes – looking forward to see what he’s got for us next! (SPOTIFY / YOUTUBE)

One of our favourite songwriters on the Manchester scene, David Gorman has released a brand new tune “La Mort“! We’ve caught him performing a good few times in the past few years and he never fails to impress. We loved his 2019 release “Curses” (actually one of the first tracks on our Local Loaf playlist!) and this song only continues to show off his fantastic vocal ability, lovely songwriting style with such great storytelling, and the production on this is so lovely, with so many different instruments coming together to create such a great soundscape. 🏡 The harmonies throughout this are gorgeous, and really compliment David’s main vocal that really commanders the track and draws the attention to the imagery conjured throughout the song. Hoping to see more from him soon! (SPOTIFY / BANDCAMP)

Post-punk indie rockers Gdansk81 have returned with a brand new EP, “Star Of The Sea“! We had them perform for us back in 2019 over at The Old Abbey Taphouse and they played a fantastic set, performing songs from their first album which had some brilliant tunes on it – with driving riffs, a great connection between the band members and fantastic songwriting. 🀘 They’ve continued this through their new EP, with walls of sound and down-to-earth lyricism, we’re blown away with how great it sounds. Well worth the listen! (SPOTIFY / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Liverpool-based creative AnnieMUSIC has returned with a brand new single, “Tomorrow / Pedal“! Blending electronic atmospheres with distorted guitars, lovely vocals and subtle yet lovely lead riffs, it sounds super gorgeous. Reminiscent of artists such as Angel Olsen and Sharen Van Etten, there’s a real shine to these tracks and they sound absolutely fantastic. β˜€οΈ even better in that it’s a double single, getting even more music from the release and the b-side “Pedal” has a gorgeous groove to it, with an almost industrial soundscape – we’d love to vibe to this tune in a music venue! Huge. Can’t wait to hear more! (SPOTIFY)

We’ve featured the fantastic Liverpool-based alternative rock outfit RIVIA in the past, with brilliant singles already under their belt – and this new tune “Wasted” sounds brilliant. With a luscious groove to the track, and fantastic vocals, suddenly opening up to a huge and explosive chorus, it’s really set them apart as ones to watch for 2022. πŸ™Œ the breakdown is beautiful too, calming down to a mellow yet powerful atmosphere that really allows the final chorus to erupt into its full ferocity. Fantastic tune! Keep your eyes out for these guys this year. (SPOTIFY)

Another Liverpool-based artist, Torture and The Desert Spiders have been tearing it up across Merseyside over the past year or so – and they’ve just released a lovely acoustic album composed of 27 tracks! 😊 with such personal and retrospective lyricism, the songwriting on this album is absolutely fantastic – a really lovely unique style that really entices the listener in. It’s an album that you can really get lost in, with lovely vocals, minimalistic and mellow atmospheres throughout the full tracklist; sounding absolutely gorgeous and a really great collection of expertly-written tracks. Well worth checking out! (BANDCAMP)

Our final release here is actually a Christmas song from one of our favourite artists, YNES with “It’s Christmas (I Miss Ya)”! Continuing with that unique britpop/punk style we’ve seen throughout their releases, it’s got a lovely and mellow atmosphere to it with the lo-fi feel to it. The lyricism here is super personal, feeling almost effortless in the delivery and really shows off how unique and talented YNES’ creativity is. ❄️ we’re not usual fans of Christmas songs, but this might have just changed our minds! Sounding brilliant, if you’ve not heard this yet it’s definitely worth a listen. (BANDCAMP)

There’s been so many incredible releases over the past month and it’s such an honour to be able to write up about some of our favourites – brilliant to see such a rich music scene at the moment. 🀘 we can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store for us all!
