The Wrap: June 2024 ✨

we’re back with our newest edition of our The Wrap feature, with reviews of some of our favourite releases from last month, June 2024! 🌮 another incredible month of music, with so many amazing tracks being released – here’s just a few of our favourites! you can find all of our reviews below! ⬇️

Grimsby’s alternative-indie rockers HEALER have just released their latest single “War“! They’ve garnered a bunch of attention since their formation in 2022, from across the country – and their music proves how deserved they are of it. This new single flows almost effortlessly, mixing indie-rock anthemic singalongs with intricate storytelling – fantastic to see. There’s a lovely build in the track, starting out in a simple manner, and growing fiercer to create a huge atmosphere, whilst maintaining a great sense of dynamic, proving the band’s talents as musicians – a brilliant track!

Folk troubadours Lo-fi Jones have just dropped their brand new single “Bad Technology” – immediately starting with a gorgeous groove within the track, an intimate atmosphere that feels super personal with the listener, letting you hang onto every word, with raw and comedic lyricism that holds a sense of unease, an underlying dread within the lyricism, but put across expertly. It’s a lovely track, with a fantastic use of instrumentation, each part plays in perfect harmony with one another and compliments the track so well. A lovely listen!

We’ve covered Alan Caruso’s tunes a bunch in the past, and we love his alt-country vibe, with a deadpan delivery and stark direct lyricism – this is only continued in this new single “Disappointed“! With a real country-esque feel, a driving bassline that lays the foundation alongside the drums superbly, a lovely guitar riffing throughout, it feels light and airy, giving the main vocal ample space to take command – ensuring the listener is fixated on the lyricism, to hear Alan’s storytelling in full force. Great stuff!

Manchester folk-stress Hazel Genevieve just put out her brand new EP “Inherit The Earth“! It’s a gorgeously delicate and intricate release, with intensely luscious atmospheres present in each track – the instrumentation of piano, guitar, viola and more only serves to create a lovely soundscape behind Hazel’s vocal, in which she flows effortlessly over each of the songs, delivering her story in an expert manner, raw and passionate lyricism found throughout – a gorgeous listen, well worth checking out!

Manchester’s indie rock outfit BAYBOARDS have returned with another new single “How I Wish I Was Cool“! they’ve been super busy this year, this is their fourth release of 2024 and it’s yet another banger. their anthemic, singalong choruses are incredible to hear, and with raw authenticity oozing from their lyrics, maintaining a personal element yet still writing songs that are easily relatable – fantastic! the track sounds gorgeous, a huge atmosphere behind it, with lovely instrumentation forming a massive sound, gorgeous synth sounds complimenting the guitarwork – yet another incredible single!

we’ve known Nat Dempsey for a long time now, having had him on plenty of gigs and covered a load of his previous tracks – and this new single “Everyday People” sounds amazing! we love Nat’s songwriting ability, his innate talent to write a relatable and down-to-earth tune, and his songs have only gone from strength to strength. this new track is lovely, it’s a got gritty and upbeat vibe to it, and it flows so well. the guitar solo is lovely, the production on the track perfectly compliments itself – fantastic to listen to, and we can’t wait to hear more!

another familiar face on the Manchester scene, Norrisette has just released their track “All The Same“! taking a touch more of a band / indie approach, compared to the more art-pop or electronic elements of their previous work, it flows so smoothly throughout the length of the track; building so well from a piano and vocal through to a huge atmospheric dancey vibe, returning to that electronic element we previously mentioned – it’s a gorgeous balance of the two approaches, and works perfectly, split superbly down the middle and utilising the best of each to create something that sounds truly unique.

we’ve had Sam Leyden perform for us a fair bit, and his impact on the Manchester scene was incredible; his new single “I Practice Writing Suicide Notes” here sounds absolutely gorgeous. an intricate and personal track, his vocal and piano compliment him so well, a delicate balance that is only further accentuated with the addition of the light percussion in the first verse – maintaining that personal element superbly. it’s his debut single, a fantastic release that shows the emotion and passion that he puts into each of his songs – we can’t wait to hear even more.

it’s been yet another incredible month of music, with so many fantastic releases, and there’s a whole plethora of talent out there that we didn’t get to cover! thanks to everyone who has checked this out, and we hope you enjoyed it! 🤘
