our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from James Wolf “Stargazing“! 
we’ve known James for a good while now, with him performing for us regularly at our events and having had him play with his band at our last Cream of the Crop; his midwest-emo / 2000’s alternative-influenced sound is lovely and sets him apart as a songwriter. 
this new single shows his lyrical prowess, but opens up his production technique and ability, taking a more electronic approach to his music – with dreamy synth lines, trap-inspired drum patterns and mellow and deep bass licks. the sonic atmosphere of this track is superb, creating a real elevated feel, and flowing incredibly throughout the chorus, a gorgeous contrast to the verses.

IORA‘s new tune “Find Me” is a lovely electronic exploration into IORA’s sound. With a mesmerising video, and lush synthesisers throughout, definitely one to be blasting from your rooftops. Absolutely GORGEOUS track from Manchester-based producer, songwriter and artist SZOU. Love the entire vibe of this – a positive, uplifting pop/electronica tune with some absolutely lovely instrumentation, production and just an entire flex of SZOU’s ability for crafting music. Found this one from a recommended video and it REALLY stood out to me. Such a lovely laid-back atmosphere to the track, with a beautiful guitar progression, and slowly building to just a fantastic jazz-inspired ballad of self-expression and focus. Lovely new EP from Blacksheeplad, a regular on our lil virtual open mic (fondly remembered 💔) it’s fantastic to hear all of these songs in studio format now, after hearing the progression of them live – plus, with his full band now, Phil really has been able to come into his own as an artist and expand his sound. Lovely lovely tune from Glaswegian punks Book Klub – proper dirty, proper post-punk and proper class video accompanying the tune. Love the moody vibe of the track, and suddenly it erupts into the chorus and throws so much at you – only to drop back into reverby goodness of guitar resonance. Lovely acoustic tune from Yorkshire-based songwriter Eli Rivers. A reflective song, with some lovely image-inducing songwriting and a lovely guitar line that simply adds a great flavour to the track. With a great video to go alongside it, this is essential listening for any folk and singer-songwriter fans in the North. Eli played our last virtual open mic and smashed it, too! [Spotify / YouTube]
Fantastic tune from North West-based indie outfit MCRAE! A huge tune, with massive vocals, lovely guitar tones, a simply fantastically well-crafted song that these lads will be absolutely made up with. Also, with a bloody fantastic break in it – a beautiful guitar line, with demanding and powerful lyrics, building up and up until a conclusive ending. Keep your eyes peeled for these lads, going to be making waves ✊ [Spotify / Video on FB]

for our Knead To Know feature today, we’ve got the absolutely incredible Mad Fox studio! 
they’ve been super busy lately, producing and recording some incredible music over there – including releases from Minervadaisy MILLICENT Kestrel Palace and Supera Morza
Tayte started this studio to provide not only a recording space for bands and artists – but to try and give them a platform for their music to not only be heard but evolve and develop. The work he has been doing on production is absolutely incredible, and the studio has only gone from strength to strength over the last year! They’ve been seeing radio play from not only BBC Music Introducing but also XS Manchester Amazing Radio and getting on some huge Spotify editorial playlists.
he’s even expanded out to having two main studios now, allowing up and coming producers and engineers to come in and rent the rooms for their own recording projects – absolutely incredible stuff. there’s some fantastic gear over there too, industry-standard equipment but also some preamps used by The Beatles on three of their albums!!

our feature for this week’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from CECIL – “NOMAD”!
blending elements of 90’s hiphop with modern psychedelic rock riffs, NOMAD is CECIL’s second single of the year – with a whole bunch of releases planned for the near future! this song expertly blends so many genres, from jazz to psychedelia to songwriter to even classical elements… it’s got them all in there! a real mellow atmosphere to this track, kinda makes you feel like you’re floating on a cloud away from all the craziness that is in the world at the moment. 
in his own words, “NOMAN is a reaction to looking into the mirror; the dichotomy of personal desires at the beginning of the day and at the end..” 
we can’t wait to hear even more from CECIL in the future – and we’re really looking forward to seeing this live! (soon enough, hopefully!)
