Just The Crust 16/05/22: Aaron Spencer – Do It All Again ☀️

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Aaron Spencer “Do It All Again”! 🤘

the Liverpool-based songwriter has been hard at it lately, making waves on the Merseyside scene and expanding out to be a force to be reckoned with in the North West. ☀️ we had him perform at one of our gigs last year, and he smashed his set – a proper talented chap!

this new tune which came out last Friday sounds absolutely boss, adding to an already super strong string of releases from himself – mixing aspects of indie-rock and singer-songwriter genres with a more mellow and relaxed atmosphere for this tune, it sounds real lovely. 😎

proper enjoyed the laidback and personal conversation aspect to this track, it feels proper intimate and really gives you an insight into Aaron’s lyrical style. the band behind him really open up his sound too, bringing a smoother edge to his music, and really compliments his style. 🎶 plus, with a proper singalong chorus, we expect this one to go down a storm live! one of our favourites in Liverpool for sure.

you can find the full track over on Spotify at – well worth giving his past releases a spin too, proper talented chap. 🙌 keep your eyes peeled on his page for a full music video release!

Manchester-based Americana songwriter Lucy Wentworth has returned with another beautiful tune “Whiskey“! With a real mellow atmosphere to it, utilising gorgeous waves of acoustic guitars, pianos and a soft drum pattern holding the track together, it sounds super lovely. Lyrically the track is superb, it’s a great tale conveyed so well throughout and her vocal sits perfectly above the instrumentation to really tell the story here. Well worth a listen, very midnight/AM listening feels! 🌛 (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

A beautiful release from Sheffield-based rosh here with the release of their latest single “This Is What You Asked For“! Utilising aspects of folk and jazz to create something lovely and unique to their sound, it’s a really well put-together track with a real sense of focus to it. 😊 the use of the different instruments within the track keeps it nice and fresh throughout, with beautiful melodies running through the length of the song, and rosh’s vocal sounds brilliant on it – amazing stuff. The build throughout to the final section of the track is simply beautiful. Plus, the b-side to it, “Absent” sounds so gorgeous. Well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We featured one of Jack Critchlow’s tracks the other month and he’s just released this new single “I Get Drunk” with Emma Kirsch! The guitar riff is absolutely lovely, and the production around it is spot on – really maintaining that chill atmosphere conveyed with the riff. 🙌 the song is brilliant, feels like a conversation with the lyricism portraying different sides of a story – and both Jack and Emma’s vocals sound sublime throughout the song, especially in that final chorus where they’re really complimenting each other super well. Great song! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve know The Sewer Cats for a long time now, and we absolutely loved their debut EP “Zelda” which we checked out after catching them live – brilliant band to see at a gig, so much energy. They’ve returned with their debut album here “Cute Aggression“, chock-full of lovely guitar riffs, heavy and driving drums, and such powerful vocals from Cass which sound absolutely fantastic. They’ve really expanded their sound for this whilst still keeping true to their signature style, and their no-nonsense lyrics pertaining to modern-day culture and politics really show off their ferocity. What a band, we love the entire album! Well worth a listen. 🤘 (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Manchester-based indie-pop artist SEARBY has just put out his brand new single “I Wonder“! ☀️ to start with, we love the beat of this track, it’s got such a groove to it, and the synths used throughout really give the track such a unique and lovely energy. The use of lead synths is perfect, you can really tell so much has been put into the production on this – and SEARBY’s vocal sounds great over the top of it all. It’s a gorgeous tale too, conveyed super well through the lyricism. The final chorus is huge, and the build throughout is beautiful. It’s well worth a listen – and definitely an add to your pre-drinks playlists! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

The new tune from North, “Recovery“, this is a gorgeously crafted track. The acoustic guitar melody at the start is so lovely, with such beautiful lead melodies over the top, and the vocals sit perfectly and sound absolutely fantastic. 👊 dropping into the chorus with the full band, really travelling so well throughout the length of the song, it’s brilliant to see – that guitar solo is bloody massive. These are definitely ones to watch here in the North – and the video looks brilliant, such a beautiful concept. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Glasgow-based Joshua has just put out his debut single “Buttercup.“! This sounds so great. Really enjoying the use of his accent in the track, utilised so well and really contributes to the feel of the song. Plus, that guitar melody is gorgeous, the drums behind it only give it even more energy, it’s really well put together. 🤘 his vocal style here is so strong too, the deadpan delivery in the verses are so great, and the chorus is super catchy, with lyrics that feel like you’re having a conversation with him! If this is the debut single, we can’t wait to hear more. One to watch, for sure! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Merseyside-based alternative rock outfit POLKER have returned with a gorgeous EP “Over Words . Ever After“! We’re really enjoying this, there’s so many influences in this, from grunge to shoegaze to singer-songwriter.. beautifully put together to solidify their own sound. The groove and feel of the band sounds top, and the lead vocal is so powerful throughout, really commanding the tracks and giving them such great energy. 🔥 This is definitely a need-to-listen-to EP, a fantastic release that we’re sure are gonna set big things in motion for the band. Knead to Know: Scott Magnus 🌛

we’re back with our next Knead To Know interview today, with the amazing Scott Magnus! 🤘

it’s fantastic to be able to speak with Scott here, he’s a super talented artist based here in Manchester and over the past year or two he’s been releasing banger after banger, getting some amazing recognition for his work and doing super well. we love his unique blend of genres, mixing together rapping, indie rock and even elements of metal in his music to create something truly his own style! 👊

he’s just released his debut EP “COMEBACK STRONGER” which sounds absolutely brilliant, a fantastic collection of songs that really give you a true insight into his life and experiences – we really loved the singles prior to the release of the album and this only exceeds our expectations! find our full interview with him below! 👇

Hey Scott, we’re delighted to be able to have a chat with you about your music here. You’ve released a few singles in the past – tell us a little bit about them and what they mean to you!

A lot of my singles have been about personal development whether that be embracing being an introvert but recognising the need to stay connected on ‘Lone Wolf’ or trying to learn and come back stronger back from failure and a fall from grace with ‘The Phoenix’. These two singles were written quite a while ago and were singer-songwriter pop with elements of trap and electro.

My latest single ‘Don’t Take Away My Purpose’ was the least introspective, it was assertive and fierce as it explored challenging a naysayer trying to make me stop doing what I love and be someone i’m not. This was my most eclectic song yet it built and built starting with indie/ neo soul/ chill rap then going into electro pop, hiphop then into grunge/ pop rock.

Your new EP is out now! How was it releasing a full-length EP?

It was really satisfying to tell a story through music in a way that my previously singles haven’t allowed me to. The story is one that is very personal to me and tackles the challenges I face as someone with learning difficulties. This is a topic which is rarely looked at and a voice that we rarely hear from so it was great to have the chance to express this point of view so candidly and authentically. I wanted people to see how challenging life with learning difficulties can be and despite that you can prevail if you focus on what you can do, learn from your mistakes and work hard. I hope this can inspire and comfort those struggling with the challenges I face or any of the challenges they face in their lives.

The response from people who listen to the whole EP was great. Many reported feeling inspired and uplifted which is exactly what I had hoped.

Where did you record the album? What was involved in the creation of it?

I recorded the album/ EP at Tngey’s studios in Blackpool. The process of creating it involved me composing a demo at home. Sometimes I would write the song solo on guitar first and sometimes I would write the song initially on a logic project. I’d make use of the instrument packs like Omnisphere and also the sample database Splice. I’d then take the demo to the studio, record guitars, vocals and then my good freind Tngey would take things to another level with his mind blowing production!

What inspires you to write songs? Have you got a creative process when you’re writing / creating?

I’m often inspired to write song when something poignant, dramatic and interesting happens to me and I have something I really want to say! My process will frequently involve me coming up with an instrumental or beat on logic then improvising to it, I will keep the best melodies and then make sense/ refine my lyrics in a notepad.

Who produces your music? (If yourself, just talk about the production elements and inspirations)

Tngey produced my Ep. He is incredibly skilled, talented but also really receptive and adaptable to the directions I would like to take things sonically. The imprint of where I want to take things will be in the demo I make at home but he can bring something really fresh to the table!

Tell us a bit about your musical journey – where did you start and what has made you evolve to where you are now?

I started playing guitar at 11 and I started writing songs at 15. I had a hiatus for a few years while pursuing acting blinkeredly but I decided to pursue music more seriously two years ago. To get back into it I started by learning covers and making songs on logic. I was on Contact theatres online music course which really challenged me to push my music skills in different directions such as writing a score to a short film. I have been working on my guitar, singing and production skills trying to learn more challenging covers each time. I have been searching for better and more interesting musical influences and trying to bring them together in a powerful and unique way – I’m trying to innovate!

How did the lockdowns impact you as a musician? What did you do throughout them? Did it get in the way of any projects?

The lockdowns were a positive impact on me as a musician. I was a key worker for a lot of it but for the first few months I was able to have more time to work on my music than before. I wrote songs did covers and also started making sketch comedy which has become a key part of the content that I make.

When you’re performing live, do you have any rituals to get into the mindset of it all? What do you enjoy most about it all?

I like to do yoga and exercise the day of a performance if I can. This keeps me alert and energised. I love the freedom on stage to express myself and to entertain the audience!

We’ve seen a great deal of interest in your singles – what kinds of responses have you had from fans or press?

The response has been really positive. People seem to respond really well to the fact I merge many genres and my songs have positive motivational messages! I have been lucky enough to receive press from publications such as Earmilk and Rolling Stone India.

Have you got anything coming up in 2022 we should know about?

My biggest single ‘Smirked’ will be coming out later this year and with a badass music video for it. It is a real culmination of the sound I have been trying to hone, a sound which combines, rock, melodic rap and trap and pop!

it’s been super lovely to chat with Scott here and see his perspective and journey – it’s so inspiring to hear about everyone’s different challenges and how they overcame hurdles to get to where they want to be. ☀️ brilliant to see, and he’s very deserving of the success he’s got, the EP sounds brilliant and well worth checking out!

a big thank you to Scott for answering these questions for us – you can find his new EP “COMEBACK STRONGER” at 🌛 we hope that you enjoyed this feature as much as we did – let us know what you think! 🥪

Just The Crust 25/04/22: Scatterchild – Staring Me Down🌛

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Scatterchild “Staring Me Down”, out this coming Friday 29th April! 👊

we’ve known Scatterchild for a good while now, having featured a bunch of their amazing releases on the website, caught them at plenty of gigs here in Manchester and even put them on a few lineups ourselves – they always put on a top show, with such energy, intimacy and power to their sets 🤘

this new tune only continues in a long line of brilliant releases from the indie-folk outfit, with beautiful melody lines throughout, and the track builds and builds throughout each verse to reach a huge chorus chock-full of vocal harmonies and such powerful lyricism from Jay – really proving his vocal ability in this track! ☀️

we love the bridge in this, dropping to create a real intimate connection with the listener, only to open back up to a huge chorus and ending off the track with a beautiful outro that just simply puts the song at ease. a really well-crafted track from the lads! 😊

head on over to to pre-save the tune ahead of its release to catch it as soon as it’s out – or head to to check out their full discography, well worth a listen to all their tracks! 💿
