The Wrap: May 2023 ✨

there’s another feature inbound for us here, with our The Wrap feature for May 2023! ☀️ there’s been so many incredible releases out this past month, we’ve covered just a few of what have come out here – check out all the reviews below! ⬇️

Craig Lee and the Humblebees have returned with a brand new single “This Isn’t Paradise“! Maintaining his original 60’s rock and roll sound, there’s a lot more indie rock in this track – but his catchy singalong hooks are still in abundance here. A real summery anthem, this song sounds fantastic, his vocals shine through here and the rhythm of the track makes it feel super groovy. The vocal harmonies post-chorus are lovely, really tying the track together and the little break in the bridge gives the song a real breath of fresh air! It’s well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We had Strawberry Lemonade perform for us back last year and they smashed it, amazing stuff, and they’re back with their new tune “You Told Me“! It kicks off in style with a huge guitar riff and a real power behind it – in the verse, the track falls away to give space for Cal’s vocal to take centre-stage. The chorus is full of passion and rage, and you can really tell that there’s so much emotion poured into this track. We can imagine this one will go off live, with so much energy behind it – fantastic stuff! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We’re huge fans of Katie O’Malley and have covered her music so much in the past, so we’re super hyped for this new single “Come On Home“! It takes a much more relaxed approach than her previous singles, but the magic is still there. It’s a real delicate track, the country aspects give so much to it and it sounds incredible. Katie’s vocal sounds fantastic on this, a much more softer side of her singing and songwriting, which we love to see – it’s unreal that she’s able to be so versatile with it all. Yet another fantastic song under her belt, well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Jimmy Page has been making waves over the last year, we’ve had him perform a bunch for us and his progress has been incredible, plus such a lovely bloke. This new single “PAINT (I’m Through)” really shows off his songwriting ability, how he’s able to portray a story through his lyrics, a real catchy singalong tune as well! The groove of the track is splendid, the rhythm of the bass and drums working in tandem with the main guitar – plus the bridge goes hard, going all in to fall into a little bass solo, fantastic stuff! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We caught Vespertines performing last year, and they blew us away with their energy and powerful set – they’ve just released their brand new EP “The Pretty Ones“! Chock-full of bangers, it shows off how they’ve really got a unique style and have harnessed their sound to get it to where they want to be. The groove of the bass and the drums throughout really create a gorgeous backdrop for the guitars to float over, and so much space for the main vocal to command. With gorgeous guitar riffs throughout, lyricism that is carefully crafted and a real chemistry between the band, it’s well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We had Shadows of a Silhouette perform for us last year and they were absolutely sensational, their stage presence was unreal, the way they could keep a crowd in the palm of their hands, and their on-stage chemistry between the band was fantastic to see. This new single “The Best of Me” only proves their talent even more, their songwriting ability, the ability to create a personal, intimate song that has so much style behind it and tells their story, it’s brilliant stuff. The flow of this song is superb, utilising dynamics so well throughout, it’s a beautiful track and well worth checking out. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

One of our favourites Tay Temple returned with her brand new single “Ain’t Me” early last month! Opening up the track with a gorgeous, grungey atmosphere from the guitar tone, drum pattern, and bassline flowing behind Tay – her vocal commands the space flawlessly to pour her feelings out onto the track. As it transitions into the chorus, the intensity of the track increases massively, perfectly matching the lyricism – an outburst of rage and pure passion, you can feel the outpour of emotion in this song. The lead guitar licks from Jordi beautifully complement Tay’s vocal melody, and the bridge is a massive one, building and building so much into the gorgeous final chorus. It’s a lovely indication of the talent that Tay and her band have! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

We’ve had ByWednesday perform for us a bunch this year, and they kicked off May with the release of their brand new EP “Thursday“! We’ve been fans of a lot of these songs for a good while now, having heard them live and as singles and the full EP sounds fantastic! Laced with gorgeous guitar tones throughout, a lovely groove behind each and every track, and Conor’s lyrical ability in tow – it’s a fantastic first full release from these guys. They’ve been able to capture the feeling of their live performances exquisitely but enhancing it with that production shine, it’s well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

The Wrap: April 2023 ✨

we’ve got our brand new The Wrap feature for April 2023 for you all! ☀️ it’s been yet another incredible month of releases and we’ve covered just a fraction of what’s come out – check out all the reviews below! ⬇️

Grimsby’s Last Of The Wonder Kids have returned with their third single “Running With Scissors“, and it sounds fantastic! Energetic throughout, giving us vibes of 2000’s indie rock but adding a lovely touch of scuzzy punk to make a gorgeous tune. With a real powerful melody, in-your-face vocals and a proper attitude behind it, it’s a brilliant tune and is sure to put them on any ones-to-watch list. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Wigan’s indie rockers Flechettes have just put out their latest single “We Shall Find Out“! There’s a proper drive to this track, we can hear a lot of grungey and alternative rock influence in the back of it but it really stays true to that familiar Northern indie sound – a massive rhythm section helping the track flow gives so much space for the lovely guitar riffs that are present throughout, and the ferocity of the main vocal makes this a proper banger from these guys. Check it out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered Blue Orchid Reaction‘s music a bunch in the past and they’ve come back with a brand new single “Atmosphere“! It’s taken a slightly more relaxed approach compared to their previous releases, but it still sounds lovely – it’s got a lot of 90’s alternative and indie in there, yet with a lot of energy in the choruses to keep the track grooving along. We can hear a lot of The Jesus and The Mary Chain in this, or bands such as The Verve – it’s a lovely tune and we can’t wait to hear any more tunes they’ve got coming up! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

The debut single from Sara RaeOctober” is a wonderful introduction to her music! It’s a gorgeous song, really well put together, we can hear a lot of folkier influences in it yet there’s elements of more mid-west emo with the guitar melody, a beautiful picking pattern that really balances and compliments her vocal – her lyricism is raw and honest, you can really feel the feeling and passion put into the song. The production is spot on – every instrument is perfectly placed within the track, it’s an incredible debut release. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

A familiar face on the Manchester scene, Tallulah Guard has just put out their brand new single “Burn“! We’re huge fans of Tallulah’s music and this sounds incredible. We can hear a lot of 90’s alternative rock in it, with a lovely element of tension from the power chords and restrained drumwork, whilst Tallulah’s vocal soars effortlessly over the track, relaying their lyrics superbly and painting the picture of the song with a real eloquence. The build of the track in the second chorus is gorgeous and it going to a really stripped back feeling straight after is a beautiful contrast. It’s well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We covered Luc Garrett‘s collaboration with Katie Elizaa back in February, and he’s just returned with his solo debut single “On My Mind“! It’s a beautiful track, it opens up with a gorgeous soundscape, with his wonderful vocal sounding amazing over the top, with his raw and personal lyricism shining through. The instrumentation gels together so well to create a lovely backdrop for him, and the use of vocal harmonies is perfectly placed to compliment his main vocal – plus, the piano solo is a real lovely touch to show off his ability! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester psych-rock outfit Strange Dream have just put out their second single “Miss Annie“! Giving us a real reminiscence of the early 90’s and late 80’s, this track sounds gorgeous – the guitar tones are superb, it creates a lovely sonic atmosphere, and the vocal glides over the top of it all so well, it’s a great track and really shows off the band’s ability. The dreamy elements of the track are perfect for a sunny day – well worth putting on during this warmer weather! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve had The Amber List perform for us before, and they’ve come back with a harder, more rock and roll sound in the form of their new single “Red Lines & Promises“! With a real energy behind the track, they’ve got a lovely tune under their belts here – we’re huge fans of their new sound. The lyricism throughout is fantastic, it’s a real depiction of their Northern roots – something we can relate to very well. Well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

The Wrap: March 2023 ✨

we’ve got our brand new The Wrap feature for March 2023 for you all ☀️ there’s been a fantastic bunch of releases over last month and here’s just a few of our favourites – check out all the reviews below! ⬇️

Another gorgeous new tune from Sam Scherdel, “Balloon” came out last month! He’s been making waves on the Northern music scene with his poetic songwriting, ability to convey a story in a unique manner – with influences from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and The Verve, he’s created a sound that is truly unique. Just from listening to the tracks, you can hear his passion for it – we’re huge fans of Sam’s, and this track only exemplifies his talent! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve loved Dr Fabola‘s music for a good while now, having covered a bunch of his previous tunes and having him on a few gigs over the past few years – this brand new tune “One More Time” is a gorgeous ballad, it’s caught the delicate and intimate manner of his live performances beautifully, and really shows off his songwriting style so well. His calm and collected musical style is fully on show here, and you can really connect with his lyricism, the production is spot on, and it’s a super lovely listen. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

One of our very good friends here at the label, Tay Temple has released her brand new single “Still Here” – it’s a hard-hitting, direct banger that grips you in right from the start. We love this new almost-punky element that Tay’s been taking on, there’s so much attitude behind the track and her performance gives a real punch to the track. The ability of her band behind her only push her to new heights – you can hear the chemistry of them all throughout this track, with all the elements joining together perfectly to create a real anthem. Well worth a listen, and we can’t wait to hear even more from her! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Greater Manchester-based grunge outfit Mort Jardin have made their return with a brand new album “Delay Decay“! It sounds fantastic from the get-go, with gorgeous guitar tones throughout, a beautiful soundscape crafted on each track, and a symphony of vocals that really elevate the tracks. There’s beautiful guitar melodies throughout it all, especially in the breakdowns – creating a real eerie sense in the build-up back to the choruses. Well worth a listen for any fans of heavier music out there! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Jacob D. Edward is a songwriter from the Netherlands that we just had to include on this – his brand new release “Threshold” is chock-full of gorgeous tunes, a real joy to listen to for any fans of singer-songwriters or folkier acts. His storytelling throughout is exquisite, depicting his tales in such a personal and affectionate way – you can really tell he’s put a bunch of time into crafting these tracks. There’s gorgeous instrumentation surrounding him, all slotting in perfectly to compliment his songwriting ability. It’s well worth a listen, reminds us a lot of Conor Oberst & Bright Eyes! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Indie-punks The Ruby Tuesdays dropped their latest EP – they’ve been making waves across Manchester over the past year or so and this EP is a bloody great show of why they’ve been doing so well. There’s a few singles on the EP that were released in the past, but we proper loved. The opener “Blacklight” is a HUGE anthemic tune, with a gorgeous guitar riff, massive sound behind it – a fantastic first track. This huge sound continues throughout the whole EP, it’s in-your-face unadulterated loud music that we just can’t get enough of. Incredible stuff from these guys, just so much energy throughout the whole EP – we love to see it! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

After hearing Evie Moran‘s first releases over the past few years, we were in love with her delicate sound and intricate songwriting, a real talent to keep an eye out for. She’s returned with this brand new track “How Do You Like Me Now?” and it sounds absolutely gorgeous. It’s taken a big step into the electronic circuit, but she’s proven with this tune that her talents are bound by no genre, it sounds fantastic – there’s a real groove to the track whilst maintaining her folkier roots, and the vocal harmonies throughout really give the song the aethereal elements that were present in her earlier songs. The production is spot on, it really compliments her style so well and we love this! Well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

Liverpool-based songwriter Kieo has returned with his second single “Happy To Lose My Mind“! With his debut hitting over 10k streams, this track really shows off his talent and proves the reason why he’s done so well. His lyricism is gorgeous, his ability to paint a story with his words is parallel to none and it’s a gorgeous track laden with synths and soundscapes that really compliment his vocal and the main acoustic track. His almost drone-y melody line on his vocal flows across the track super well, and you can hear touches of his accent throughout which we absolutely love to see. Well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

it’s been an incredible start to the year for music in the North West, it’s brilliant to see such a stream of continuous and quality music coming out. big love to everyone for letting us showcase their music and to you guys for checking this out! 🤘

ICYMI, our latest edition of The Wrap 👊

The Wrap: February 2023 ✨

we’re back with our The Wrap feature for February 2022! we’ve got a bunch of incredible releases covered here over the past month, a sensational one for music. you can check out all our reviews below ⬇️

South Wales-based Ratoon have returned with their brand new single “Not So Pretty Anymore“! We’ve covered their tunes in the past and they’ve gone above and beyond with this track, taking a more relaxed approach to the music. With a calm and relaxed flow to the track, it retains the charismatic energy that we’ve seen in the past from them, but shows a different side to their music. The guitar riff leading the track is lovely, a gorgeous tone to it, and it really compliments the vocals that direct the song’s flow almost effortlessly. The breakdown of the song gives a real chance for the track to breathe and to give it some space, a really well executed track from these guys. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered Lynskey in the past with their single “kinda tastes like iron” back in November of last year and they’ve returned with the release of their full EP “eat that up, it’s good for you“! The new tracks from the EP really open up the sound that they defined with the single, maintaining that metal expression with riffs and power chords throughout, and the synths give the tracks a lovely parallel to the grittiness of the rest of the instrumentation. The dynamics throughout the tracks are superb too, opening up in choruses to create a huge soundscape behind the lyrics, and breaking down to give a fantastic use of space for contrast in bridges – fantastic stuff from these guys, well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

After a strong run of singles over the past few years, Stoke’s Souza have put out their brand new track “Backroads“! Taking a more relaxed approach compared to their previous tracks, the track opens up with a real gorgeous guitar run, and the calm nature of the first verse really invites the listener in – and as it gets to the chorus, the addition of the full rhythm section only adds to this calmness throughout the track. There’s an almost melancholic feel to the song, keeping a lovely fluidity to it and showing a softer side to Souza’s music. The lyricism is gorgeous, painting the scene expertly throughout – and the guitar solo at the end is executed with style. Lovely to listen to! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Hollows have been making waves on the Manchester scene lately, and their new single “Chequered” only solidifies their excellence. With a gorgeous indie feel to the track, and a lead guitar riff that takes command right from the get-go, it sounds fantastic. The vocals take charge immediately after the riff, and there’s a real essence of cool throughout the track that’s very difficult to properly implement. They’ve taken an indie sound and really put their own stamp on it, with a huge sound behind them, a classic singalong hook and a real energy throughout the song that would be able to get anyone on their feet. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester’s own James Reid just dropped his brand new track “HAPPY“! We’ve been big fans of his past releases and this new track is a real indication of his talent. The production on the track is gorgeous, a real lovely space for his vocal talent to shine – a noughties rnb feel to it, but with a modern production stance. His vocals glide effortlessly over the song, really showing off his abilities, with harmonies and ad libs that are perfectly placed throughout to really put across the message of the track. A real feel good tune, great stuff! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

A familiar face for us here at the label, having performed for us in the past a bunch – Six Second Talk Show has put out his first single here, “X Marks the Spot“! We’ve heard this a bunch live and the track has not only captured the live feeling of it, but expanded on it superbly, with a lovely space throughout to let that gorgeous guitar tone through – and for the vocal to flow throughout the song. There’s a proper laidback feel to the tune, and the instrumentation works perfectly in tandem to give the track a real psychedelic edge to it, but still maintaining the indie feel. A fantastic debut release, we can’t wait to hear more! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’re massive fans of Abi Rose Kelly with an incredible repertoire of music already behind her, proving to be one to definitely keep an eye on in Liverpool. We were massive fans of a live version of this new tune “MOTION SICKNESS!!” and this studio recording is absolutely spectacular. The guitar riff, all of the energy throughout is extraordinary and really shows the potential that Abi’s got. Her lyricism is spot on, grounded and down to earth but poetic and feels like it’s a conversation with the listener. The breakdown in the tune is a lovely contrast to the chaos of the rest of the song, but the build into that final section is absolutely gorgeous and sets the scene for the ferocity of the outro – make sure you keep an eye on Abi’s music as we reckon she’ll be doing massive bits in the future. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

We had ByWednesday perform for us at the start of the year for our On The Rise gig at Lions Den and they smashed their set, with a strong set of originals – and this new single “Gold” sounds absolutely fantastic. With a real 90’s alternative feel to it, the lead guitar matched to the chorusy rhythm guitar really gives it an almost psychedelic quality, almost a dissonance that really compliment’s Conor’s vocal and lyricism – the chorus has a real energy that makes the track pop as well. You can really hear the tightness of the band in this too, every element contributing to the track to create something super lovely. We can’t wait to hear their EP coming out later this year! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

another incredible month of releases from across the North West – a real diverse set of tunes and showing off how incredible the music here up North is. these are only a few of a plethora of incredible music out, we’ve heard so much that has blown us away. a real special time for music! thanks to everyone for reading! 💥

Make sure you head on down to open mics, gigs, support local music and arts and keep your scenes going! 😊 all music, videos and images remain copyright of their respective owners. 🍞

The Wrap: January 2023 ✨

it may be a touch late as we’ve been proper busy for the start of the year, but today we’re stoked to bring you our The Wrap feature for January 2022 💥 so many great tunes out lately, a fantastic way to see in 2023! check out all our reviews below ⬇️

Manchester’s very own Cold Water Swimmers started off the year with a bang with the release of their new single “Were You Even There“! ☀️ a lovely tune, with such a groove behind it, it flows superbly throughout the track and almost feels like you’re in a conversation with them – beautiful songwriting on it coupled with jangley guitars, gorgeous rhythms and a laid-back atmosphere that give it a real old-school indie rock feel. Since then, they’ve even put out their brand new single “In the Time it Takes for You to Say Goodbye” – well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

We had Gallaher’s Green perform for us at our On The Rise gig back in January and they absolutely smashed it – this track “Where Do I Begin?” is a real encapsulation of the energy they display on stage, and also a real singalong tune! With gorgeous guitar riffs, upbeat rhythm from the basslines and drumwork – the lead guitar on this is sublime and shows off the fantastic chemistry between the members of the band. All this, plus a real powerful vocal that is full of passion; it’s a great start to the year for these guys! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester-based punks Taurine have returned with another single here, “Breathe“! A real contrast to their earlier releases, the song is a gorgeously put together track, the feedback in the soundscape is something we absolutely love, really giving the track a gritty feel yet being gorgeous – and with Mars’ vocal delicately balanced above this, the raw and honest lyricism shining through, it’s only so much more hard-hitting once the distortion and drums kick in and give the track such a chaotic energy. These are ones to watch here, we can’t wait to hear more from them! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

We only covered Hayden J Barlow‘s newest single the other week, but we had to definitely do a shoutout for his first release of the year, “CHOKEHOLD“! We’re HUGE fans of Hayden’s music, having covered his tunes loads over the past few months but we have to say this has to be one of our favourites. The production throughout is absolutely spot on, everything in it feels so delicately put together right from the get-go, his lyricism depicts such gorgeous imagery, the synths are so lush and the chorus is absolutely dirty as anything with that bass underlying throughout the whole thing. Always putting out massive tunes! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We’ve had Boxes perform for us a bunch here at the label at our gigs and we’re amazed by their latest release this year, “Devil In The Distance“! It sounds so lush right from the start, with David’s vocal balanced so well over the sporadic chord progression. As it flows through, it builds so well with such a beautiful instrumentation choice – his songwriting ability is fully on display here too, with such a descriptive and intricate style. That guitar solo too, so perfectly done for the track! We can’t wait to hear even more from these guys, big fans of their music! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Another regular face for us, Ayanam has put out his brand new single “Here We Are (The Unbroken)“! It’s a much different feel to his other releases, much more driven and intense but it provides such a fantastic setting for his vocal to excel in – a real anthem and singalong tune. The production on this is lovely, with everything sitting in perfect tandem with one another to create a luscious atmosphere that not only flows super well, but carries a slight tension throughout that really adds to the feel of the track. Ayanam’s vocal is fantastic on this, and he should be real proud as it’s beautifully written track with a fantastic hook. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

York-based Pennine Suite put out this absolutely beautiful tune “Scottish Snow” and we’re massive fans of it! There’s a real energy to the track right from the start, a gorgeous soundscape for the vocals to glide over, and the vocals are so well balanced and work incredibly together. As it opens up, it almost feels like a dream-pop tune with that synth line and has such a lovely energetic rhythm to it all. We’re massive fans of the second chorus too, turning the level up to 11 to create a real powerful atmosphere to the track to accentuate the hook, a beautifully written chorus that we can’t get enough of. Well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve heard Isaac Neilson perform this one a bunch at the gigs he’s played but he’s really put so much into “Dead Set Dance” for the studio version, it sounds absolutely gorgeous. From playing it acoustic, there was so much energy in it but every single instrument is working so well to create a real drive in this – it’s a fantastic sounding track, showing off Isaac’s quality songwriting ability and really showing him off as one to watch for 2023. His ability to write a catchy hook but maintain a real sensibility to his lyrics is fantastic, and the breakdown to the last chorus is sensational. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

what a way to start off the year! there’s been a whole bunch of amazing releases and not just what we’ve covered here, but it’s a beautiful depiction of the Northern music scene and the quality that is found within it. well worth keeping an eye on all these guys, big thanks to everyone who checked this out! 😎

Make sure you head on down to open mics, gigs, support local music and arts and keep your scenes going! 😊 all music, videos and images remain copyright of their respective owners. 🍞
