The Wrap: July 2023 ✨

here’s the brand new edition of The Wrap, for July 2023! there’s been so many incredible releases over the course of the last month, and here’s just a few of them that we’ve written up some reviews for – check them out below! ⬇️

We first heard of Alan Caruso with the release of his first few singles last year, and his lo-fi americana folk sound really sets him apart from the rest. He’s just released a brand new set of tracks, “Songs Are Spells” – these really encapsulate his tone, with some lovely tracks set to a moody backlight, with deadpan vocal deliverance, intricate lyricism and gorgeous guitar melodies lacing the tracks. The opening track is mellow, moody yet the second song “Not Innocent” is set to a driving rhythm, reminiscent of Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile. These songs are expertly put together, and well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered Tay Temple a whole bunch in the past, and she’s a great friend of the label, having played a plethora of gigs for us, and she’s returned with the next single “Sunglasses” from her upcoming EP! Opening the track with a grungey guitar pattern, feeling like 90’s riot grrrl scuzz, it’s a call to arms for anyone victimised by unwanted attention. With direct and pointed lyricism, she’s not pulling any punches on this one. The chorus makes way for her to become central stage, “Cause I see it all the time, things get dropped and pushed aside” – only to explode into a huge wall of sound, showing a grungier and heavier tone to her previous releases. The video is gorgeous as well, adding another layer to the impact of the song – well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Greater-Manchester alternative rock band Not Ned have just returned with a brand new EP “Not Gonna Sleep Tonight“! With huge guitar riffs throughout, driving rhythm and singalong choruses, they’ve expanded out on their original sound that we’ve come to see with their previous tunes. The opening track is an anthemic singalong, yet “Come Talk To Me” feels more 2000’s punk, showing their versatility in genre, an upbeat track with tongue-in-cheek lyricism throughout. With plenty of guitar solos throughout, driving basslines and huge drums, it’s well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Hebden Bridge-based songwriter michael dollan just released his album “our own unique patch of sky” – a gorgeously crafted album laced with almost psychedelic-rock elements, weaving soundscapes around his songwriting and lyricism. Throughout the album, you can see the intricacy of his lyrics, touching on a range of topics and inspirations, from political events to his local environment, personal life and even more. The soundscapes of the album are placed so carefully, utilising the space incredibly to create a proper atmosphere that is unique to each track. It’s well worth checking out, a fantastic album! (APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Dorothy Ella just dropped her new single “All You Say Is No“! After a string of quality releases over the past year or two, she’s been going from strength to strength – and this new track sounds fantastic! It’s a real upbeat, feel-good track, with elements of funk and all over it, and chock-full of luscious vocal harmonies and Dorothy’s vocal leads these perfectly. The song has a gorgeous sense of rhythm to it, holding a real groove throughout, and the instrumentation works in perfect unison to keep the vibe of the song flowing! We can’t wait to hear more, what a tune! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Another of our favourites here on the Manchester music scene, Jimmy Page XI returns with his new song “Cataclysmic“! He’s been smashing it this year, with a bunch of great releases and really establishing himself as on to watch on the Manchester circuit – even since this release, he’s put out a live album as well! Opening up the track with a driving bassline, it sets up the feel of the song right from the get-go – it takes a slightly more heavier tone than his previous tracks, but still maintains his pop-stylings we’ve come to be familiar with; his lyricism is on point here, with a proper singalong chorus, and the production on the tracks is lovely, a great blend of instrumentation that only compliments the tune superbly. Well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve been fans of Daisy Harris for a good while now, with her grungey, indie stylings creating a lovely backdrop for her delicate songwriting style – and this new tune “Backwoods” only exemplifies that! With a loose, droney guitar pattern forming the basis of the track, backed with a calm and relaxed drumbeat behind it, and echoey and spacey guitar riffs throughout the atmosphere, it gives Daisy a gorgeous space to deliver her lyrics over. Her lyricism here is almost deadpan, reminiscent of Courtney Barnett, 90’s alternative, and direct – it’s proper descriptive, intricate, and you can really see the feeling poured into the track. We’re huge fans of the ambience and spooky soundscape in the behind of the track, creating a real atmosphere to it! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered Shadows of a Silhouette a bunch in the past, they’ve played gigs for us and we’re stoked to hear their brand new single “Kickstart a Revolution“! They’ve just come back from playing the main stage at Y Not Festival, and with tracks like these you can really hear why. Gorgeous guitar tones are strewn around this track, with a luscious lead guitar melody that compliments the vocal harmony so well, and sets a lovely space for Nathan’s vocal to shine through. He controls the track expertly, almost having a conversation with the listener, a sure sign of a great songwriter. It’s a much more personal track from any of the previous ones, but still shows off their class and talent – well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

The Wrap: June 2023 ✨

we’ve got our brand new edition of The Wrap for you here, for June 2023 ☀️ another fantastic month of releases, we’ve got a whole bunch of great tunes reviewed for you – check them out below! ⬇️

A familiar face for us here on the Manchester music scene, Boxes have returned with their brand new single “Fighter“! Taking a heavier stance compared to their usual country feel, this track has a real ferocity behind it, musically and lyrically – we really love the descriptive tone of the lyrics, setting the scene of the song superbly, with gorgeous use of imagery throughout. They’ve really come into their own and made a unique sound, and the use of the slide backed with the distorted guitars, heavier backdrop of rhythm with a huge bass tone and more energetic drumbeat really give the track the force it deserves. It’s a fantastic track here, well worth a listen – plus David’s vocal is in full show on this as well! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Continuing with our country trend, we’ve been huge fans of Grace Kelly ever since we met her, with her constant passion and drive for her music setting her apart from the rest. She’s just released her newest EP “Table for One” and it sounds absolutely gorgeous. Her songwriting ability is on full show throughout, and her ability to write quality tracks that are full of her passion, the way she describes feelings, emotions and situations is superb. The production on the tracks is perfect for her songs, striking a balance that only compliments her music – each of the songs are perfectly balanced and expertly crafted. It’s definitely worth checking out, we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for her! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We had Dr Fabola perform for us the other week, and we were reminded about how intrinsic and beautifully delicate his music is! This new release “Feels Like Rain” is a perfect example of this, his chord progressions and picking patterns are so expertly put together, relaying a story just within that – and his lyricism just adds a whole new dimension to it. Each of his songs is so graphic, putting across his vision for the track perfectly. The production of this song only adds to it all even more, with the vocal harmonies and instrumentation complimenting his performance, and proving his ability. Another incredible track to add to his brilliant discography. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Preston’s own The Outerlines have just released their second single, “Kelsey“! The track gives us real nostalgia for the more underground indie rock of the early 2000s, with a real lo-fi feel, shining through with the more grungier tones of the track. There’s a proper energy behind the track, with a huge drumbeat, gorgeous rhythm from the bass and rhythm guitar and the lead guitar riff just puts it all together superbly. The lyrics are lush, really painting the picture well and giving us a proper feel for the years of growing up in the North West. It’s well worth a listen, these guys are going places and it’s only their second release! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We’ve been huge fans of Post Rome since we heard their track “The Idea Of Having A Boyfriend” – their energetic tunes and quality songwriting really impressed us. They’ve returned with their brand new single “Don’t Drown Me Out”, taking a much more pop-infused direction to their music, but still maintaining that quality that we were accustomed to with their earlier releases! The track has a gorgeous soundscape, and the energy of the drums entwined with the guitar melody is lush. With a lovely and catchy hook, the chorus sounds mega, and shows that they’re easily able to write much more of a variety of styles, and it gives us a real Enter Shikari feel. Well worth checking out for a feel-good listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

When we first heard this track by Georgia Johnson, “The Moon“, we were blown away by it and knew we had to get it on a feature! We love the entire feel of this track, from the lo-fi chorusy guitarwork, the laid-back rhythm behind it, giving a gorgeous space for her vocals to shine through – she sounds gorgeous on this, what a voice. Her lyricism here is insane, portraying her story in an expert way, we can’t wait to hear even more music from her. The production in the backdrop of the song is so well balanced, adding just what the song needs and really complementing the song as a whole. It’s only her second release as well! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered a bunch of Hollows‘ releases in the past and we love the energetic, dark and broody feel to their tracks, with huge guitar riffs, massive drums and rhythm behind it all. They’ve returned with this new single “The Floor“, which is a gorgeous example of their signature sound – energetic, ferocious and grungey. The guitar melody really sets the scene for the track, and the build-up into the main riff is lush, giving the track a lovely dynamic to it – the balance between the choruses and the verses is great! There’s a fantastic breakdown in this one too, dropping away to leave a beautiful bass synth running, only for it all to explode back into the final chorus. Another incredible release from these guys! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Liverpool’s Andrew Neal just released his brand new single, “No Longer Shall We Run“! It’s a real upbeat, optimistic political anthem depicting the modern state of society, presenting a need for unity and collective action – really giving us a feel for old-school folksinger tunes. The lyricism is spot-on, direct and a call-to-action, real inspiring lyrics that invoke a real passion for community. With this feel-good atmosphere about it, there’s gorgeous chemistry in this track, with all the instruments working in tandem to create the atmosphere, and the solos are a really lovely touch, call and response to elevate the track even truther. Andrew’s vocal sounds great here too, really inviting the listener into the song and to engage with his lyrics. Well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

The Wrap: May 2023 ✨

there’s another feature inbound for us here, with our The Wrap feature for May 2023! ☀️ there’s been so many incredible releases out this past month, we’ve covered just a few of what have come out here – check out all the reviews below! ⬇️

Craig Lee and the Humblebees have returned with a brand new single “This Isn’t Paradise“! Maintaining his original 60’s rock and roll sound, there’s a lot more indie rock in this track – but his catchy singalong hooks are still in abundance here. A real summery anthem, this song sounds fantastic, his vocals shine through here and the rhythm of the track makes it feel super groovy. The vocal harmonies post-chorus are lovely, really tying the track together and the little break in the bridge gives the song a real breath of fresh air! It’s well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We had Strawberry Lemonade perform for us back last year and they smashed it, amazing stuff, and they’re back with their new tune “You Told Me“! It kicks off in style with a huge guitar riff and a real power behind it – in the verse, the track falls away to give space for Cal’s vocal to take centre-stage. The chorus is full of passion and rage, and you can really tell that there’s so much emotion poured into this track. We can imagine this one will go off live, with so much energy behind it – fantastic stuff! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We’re huge fans of Katie O’Malley and have covered her music so much in the past, so we’re super hyped for this new single “Come On Home“! It takes a much more relaxed approach than her previous singles, but the magic is still there. It’s a real delicate track, the country aspects give so much to it and it sounds incredible. Katie’s vocal sounds fantastic on this, a much more softer side of her singing and songwriting, which we love to see – it’s unreal that she’s able to be so versatile with it all. Yet another fantastic song under her belt, well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Jimmy Page has been making waves over the last year, we’ve had him perform a bunch for us and his progress has been incredible, plus such a lovely bloke. This new single “PAINT (I’m Through)” really shows off his songwriting ability, how he’s able to portray a story through his lyrics, a real catchy singalong tune as well! The groove of the track is splendid, the rhythm of the bass and drums working in tandem with the main guitar – plus the bridge goes hard, going all in to fall into a little bass solo, fantastic stuff! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We caught Vespertines performing last year, and they blew us away with their energy and powerful set – they’ve just released their brand new EP “The Pretty Ones“! Chock-full of bangers, it shows off how they’ve really got a unique style and have harnessed their sound to get it to where they want to be. The groove of the bass and the drums throughout really create a gorgeous backdrop for the guitars to float over, and so much space for the main vocal to command. With gorgeous guitar riffs throughout, lyricism that is carefully crafted and a real chemistry between the band, it’s well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We had Shadows of a Silhouette perform for us last year and they were absolutely sensational, their stage presence was unreal, the way they could keep a crowd in the palm of their hands, and their on-stage chemistry between the band was fantastic to see. This new single “The Best of Me” only proves their talent even more, their songwriting ability, the ability to create a personal, intimate song that has so much style behind it and tells their story, it’s brilliant stuff. The flow of this song is superb, utilising dynamics so well throughout, it’s a beautiful track and well worth checking out. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

One of our favourites Tay Temple returned with her brand new single “Ain’t Me” early last month! Opening up the track with a gorgeous, grungey atmosphere from the guitar tone, drum pattern, and bassline flowing behind Tay – her vocal commands the space flawlessly to pour her feelings out onto the track. As it transitions into the chorus, the intensity of the track increases massively, perfectly matching the lyricism – an outburst of rage and pure passion, you can feel the outpour of emotion in this song. The lead guitar licks from Jordi beautifully complement Tay’s vocal melody, and the bridge is a massive one, building and building so much into the gorgeous final chorus. It’s a lovely indication of the talent that Tay and her band have! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

We’ve had ByWednesday perform for us a bunch this year, and they kicked off May with the release of their brand new EP “Thursday“! We’ve been fans of a lot of these songs for a good while now, having heard them live and as singles and the full EP sounds fantastic! Laced with gorgeous guitar tones throughout, a lovely groove behind each and every track, and Conor’s lyrical ability in tow – it’s a fantastic first full release from these guys. They’ve been able to capture the feeling of their live performances exquisitely but enhancing it with that production shine, it’s well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Grimsby’s Last Of The Wonder Kids have returned with their third single “Running With Scissors“, and it sounds fantastic! Energetic throughout, giving us vibes of 2000’s indie rock but adding a lovely touch of scuzzy punk to make a gorgeous tune. With a real powerful melody, in-your-face vocals and a proper attitude behind it, it’s a brilliant tune and is sure to put them on any ones-to-watch list. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Wigan’s indie rockers Flechettes have just put out their latest single “We Shall Find Out“! There’s a proper drive to this track, we can hear a lot of grungey and alternative rock influence in the back of it but it really stays true to that familiar Northern indie sound – a massive rhythm section helping the track flow gives so much space for the lovely guitar riffs that are present throughout, and the ferocity of the main vocal makes this a proper banger from these guys. Check it out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered Blue Orchid Reaction‘s music a bunch in the past and they’ve come back with a brand new single “Atmosphere“! It’s taken a slightly more relaxed approach compared to their previous releases, but it still sounds lovely – it’s got a lot of 90’s alternative and indie in there, yet with a lot of energy in the choruses to keep the track grooving along. We can hear a lot of The Jesus and The Mary Chain in this, or bands such as The Verve – it’s a lovely tune and we can’t wait to hear any more tunes they’ve got coming up! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

The debut single from Sara RaeOctober” is a wonderful introduction to her music! It’s a gorgeous song, really well put together, we can hear a lot of folkier influences in it yet there’s elements of more mid-west emo with the guitar melody, a beautiful picking pattern that really balances and compliments her vocal – her lyricism is raw and honest, you can really feel the feeling and passion put into the song. The production is spot on – every instrument is perfectly placed within the track, it’s an incredible debut release. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

A familiar face on the Manchester scene, Tallulah Guard has just put out their brand new single “Burn“! We’re huge fans of Tallulah’s music and this sounds incredible. We can hear a lot of 90’s alternative rock in it, with a lovely element of tension from the power chords and restrained drumwork, whilst Tallulah’s vocal soars effortlessly over the track, relaying their lyrics superbly and painting the picture of the song with a real eloquence. The build of the track in the second chorus is gorgeous and it going to a really stripped back feeling straight after is a beautiful contrast. It’s well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We covered Luc Garrett‘s collaboration with Katie Elizaa back in February, and he’s just returned with his solo debut single “On My Mind“! It’s a beautiful track, it opens up with a gorgeous soundscape, with his wonderful vocal sounding amazing over the top, with his raw and personal lyricism shining through. The instrumentation gels together so well to create a lovely backdrop for him, and the use of vocal harmonies is perfectly placed to compliment his main vocal – plus, the piano solo is a real lovely touch to show off his ability! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester psych-rock outfit Strange Dream have just put out their second single “Miss Annie“! Giving us a real reminiscence of the early 90’s and late 80’s, this track sounds gorgeous – the guitar tones are superb, it creates a lovely sonic atmosphere, and the vocal glides over the top of it all so well, it’s a great track and really shows off the band’s ability. The dreamy elements of the track are perfect for a sunny day – well worth putting on during this warmer weather! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve had The Amber List perform for us before, and they’ve come back with a harder, more rock and roll sound in the form of their new single “Red Lines & Promises“! With a real energy behind the track, they’ve got a lovely tune under their belts here – we’re huge fans of their new sound. The lyricism throughout is fantastic, it’s a real depiction of their Northern roots – something we can relate to very well. Well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Another gorgeous new tune from Sam Scherdel, “Balloon” came out last month! He’s been making waves on the Northern music scene with his poetic songwriting, ability to convey a story in a unique manner – with influences from the likes of Bruce Springsteen and The Verve, he’s created a sound that is truly unique. Just from listening to the tracks, you can hear his passion for it – we’re huge fans of Sam’s, and this track only exemplifies his talent! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve loved Dr Fabola‘s music for a good while now, having covered a bunch of his previous tunes and having him on a few gigs over the past few years – this brand new tune “One More Time” is a gorgeous ballad, it’s caught the delicate and intimate manner of his live performances beautifully, and really shows off his songwriting style so well. His calm and collected musical style is fully on show here, and you can really connect with his lyricism, the production is spot on, and it’s a super lovely listen. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

One of our very good friends here at the label, Tay Temple has released her brand new single “Still Here” – it’s a hard-hitting, direct banger that grips you in right from the start. We love this new almost-punky element that Tay’s been taking on, there’s so much attitude behind the track and her performance gives a real punch to the track. The ability of her band behind her only push her to new heights – you can hear the chemistry of them all throughout this track, with all the elements joining together perfectly to create a real anthem. Well worth a listen, and we can’t wait to hear even more from her! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Greater Manchester-based grunge outfit Mort Jardin have made their return with a brand new album “Delay Decay“! It sounds fantastic from the get-go, with gorgeous guitar tones throughout, a beautiful soundscape crafted on each track, and a symphony of vocals that really elevate the tracks. There’s beautiful guitar melodies throughout it all, especially in the breakdowns – creating a real eerie sense in the build-up back to the choruses. Well worth a listen for any fans of heavier music out there! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Jacob D. Edward is a songwriter from the Netherlands that we just had to include on this – his brand new release “Threshold” is chock-full of gorgeous tunes, a real joy to listen to for any fans of singer-songwriters or folkier acts. His storytelling throughout is exquisite, depicting his tales in such a personal and affectionate way – you can really tell he’s put a bunch of time into crafting these tracks. There’s gorgeous instrumentation surrounding him, all slotting in perfectly to compliment his songwriting ability. It’s well worth a listen, reminds us a lot of Conor Oberst & Bright Eyes! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Indie-punks The Ruby Tuesdays dropped their latest EP – they’ve been making waves across Manchester over the past year or so and this EP is a bloody great show of why they’ve been doing so well. There’s a few singles on the EP that were released in the past, but we proper loved. The opener “Blacklight” is a HUGE anthemic tune, with a gorgeous guitar riff, massive sound behind it – a fantastic first track. This huge sound continues throughout the whole EP, it’s in-your-face unadulterated loud music that we just can’t get enough of. Incredible stuff from these guys, just so much energy throughout the whole EP – we love to see it! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

After hearing Evie Moran‘s first releases over the past few years, we were in love with her delicate sound and intricate songwriting, a real talent to keep an eye out for. She’s returned with this brand new track “How Do You Like Me Now?” and it sounds absolutely gorgeous. It’s taken a big step into the electronic circuit, but she’s proven with this tune that her talents are bound by no genre, it sounds fantastic – there’s a real groove to the track whilst maintaining her folkier roots, and the vocal harmonies throughout really give the song the aethereal elements that were present in her earlier songs. The production is spot on, it really compliments her style so well and we love this! Well worth a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

Liverpool-based songwriter Kieo has returned with his second single “Happy To Lose My Mind“! With his debut hitting over 10k streams, this track really shows off his talent and proves the reason why he’s done so well. His lyricism is gorgeous, his ability to paint a story with his words is parallel to none and it’s a gorgeous track laden with synths and soundscapes that really compliment his vocal and the main acoustic track. His almost drone-y melody line on his vocal flows across the track super well, and you can hear touches of his accent throughout which we absolutely love to see. Well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)
