Just The Crust 27/07/26: Beck Pocket – Ephemeral ๐Ÿ’ฅ

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single “Ephemeral” from Beck Pocket โ˜€๏ธ

the electro-pop duo have been making a real name for themselves over the past few years, performing across the North West a bunch and being selected as part of the 2025 Factory Sounds – and this new single, their first in two years, sees them explore a move into an era of feel-good, glitchy chaos ๐Ÿ™Œ

the track sounds fantastic, opening with a nostalgia-filled soundscape, with evolving electronica synths paired with dreamy vocal melodies, and the drop into the driving, fast-paced chorus feels like a real teleportation to an 80’s racing game. there’s a proper groove to the track, with a gorgeous bassline that’s paired with refined lead guitar melodies, all which come together so well to create a track that’ll be stuck in your head for days to come. ๐ŸŽง

the track is available on all streaming platforms, and you can support them directly by purchasing the track over on Bandcamp at https://beckpocket.bandcamp.com/music ๐Ÿ’ฟ

REVIEW: Mara Liddle – Extreme Confidence (EP) ๐ŸŒ

Mara Liddle returns with her brand new full-length EP “Extreme Confidence“! We were huge fans of her previous music, and the singles in the run-up to the release were fantastic – we were super proud to be able to offer an in-depth review of “YOUR MIND” after it’s release. The EP offers an extended insight into Mara’s songwriting and musical prowess, and we’re delighted to be able to provide another thorough review of it!

One of the most striking parts of the EP as a whole is Mara’s ability to write a catchy hook, yet maintaining a real sense of emotion and feeling within every lyric. Her wordcraft is down-to-earth, relatable and exposes the human experience of modern society, the vulnerabilties and resilience that you endure on a daily basis, conveying real personal elements within each of her tracks. Paired with an ear for expertly crafted, dreamy melodic lines, her adept songwriting ability is on full display throughout the entire runthrough.

In addition to this, her production skills ensure that each of the tracks has a real personality to it, with every track having a sense of individuality yet maintaining connecting overlaps that ensure that there’s a quality flow throughout the release. Her use of instrumentation is excellent, ranging from violent synthesiser stabs, bouncing drumwork and driving basslines, to intimate acoustic guitarwork and delicate pads. This all compliments her lyricism incredibly, and her ability to craft a diverse range of tracks is sure to ensure her music is one to listen to over and over and over again.

All in all, with the driving autotuned anthemic elements of “YOUR MIND“, the laid-back, sunray-laced bounce of “TOO SHY“, and the midnight-esque lofi-rnb-pop sensibilities of “SPIN“, she’s ensured herself as one of the North West’s ones to watch for 2026, with an EP that’s sure to be on repeat for the entire year.
