Just The Crust 14/07/25: The Stride – Got To Lose 👊

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single “Got To Lose” by Burnley-based indie outfit The Stride! 👊

following the release of their single “Hold On” last year, the band have gone from strength to strength, performing across the North West and beyond, taking their indie rock tunes with them and astounding audiences – reminiscent of 90’s Manchester vibes 💥

this new single opens up with a nostalgic guitar progression, backed with a real tight rhythm section that holds it together, giving plenty of room for the lead guitar melody to flow over the top – and the main vocal takes command immediately, it’s a real indie anthemic vibe to it with a singalong chorus and with a proper stadium rock feel 🙌

this single “P.O.S” sounds incredible, her in-your-face, no-nonsense attitude is present throughout the tune, and right from the get-go, Tay’s vocal immediately grips the listener’s attention, with direct lyricism and driving guitars punching through. as the track opens up, the drums and bassline lay a strong foundation for the tune, perfectly complimenting the guitar riffs and ensuring Tay’s powerful vocals and straight-talking lyrics take centre stage 🙌 a real angry anthem for the modern age!

The Wrap: May 2025 🌮

we’re back with our next edition of The Wrap feature! 🤝

we’ve got in-depth reviews of some of our favourite releases of May, and it’s been yet another amazing month – you can find all of our reviews below ⬇️

Manchester-based alternative-folk act Will Walton has just released the brand new album “living in a birdhouse“! laden with dreamy soundscapes, intricate and descriptive lyricism, Will’s ability to paint a picture through song is second to none, conveying emotion and feeling in an expert manner. there’s a huge range here, from upbeat thrashy in-your-face tracks, to more delicate sounds – it’s well worth checking out!

we’ve been huge fans of Grace Elizabeth Harvey for a good while now, since she performed for us last year, putting us in awe with her magical performance, her expertly-crafted tracks, and her debut EP “Other Faith” is out now! it’s a gorgeous listen, beautifully encapsulating the intricacy of her live performance, with direct yet poetic lyricism throughout, proving her expertise as a songwriter. a must listen for any fans of acoustic, folk or americana!

another of our favourites on the scene, Ayanam Udoma has just put out his new single “Dream Girl Don’t Fade“! we’ve known Ayanam for years, and his ability to create a catchy, feel-good tune is second to none – this new single is real proof of that. with a heavy groove behind it, there’s a proper drive in the track that only compliments his soft, gravelly vocal, which takes centre-stage here and ensures the listener’s attention. another brilliant tune from him, and we can’t wait to hear more!

Manchester power-pop princess Yasmin Coe has just put out her new single “Blink Twice“! her ethereal, dreamy vocal sounds heavenly on this track, and it compliments the alternative rock feel of the instrumental, the driving of the bass and the drums to create a strong foundation for the track, yet ensuring that she’s in command of the track, and with poignant and direct lyricism, it’s pulling no punches, a real down-to-earth tune that sounds incredible and has cemented her as one to watch for 2025.

another of our favourites on the scene, MR. FISH have just released their EP “Chippy Tea“! their upbeat, energetic performances wowed us when we had them perform for us, and this EP is chock-full of them, really delivering their live setting into a studio recording. with gorgeous melodies throughout, singalong choruses, each of their tunes is a real feel-good anthem, bound to get anyone dancing. definitely worth a listen!

Bonfire Tide have teamed up with Ellysse Mason for the release of their single “Shadows“, preceding their debut album which came out in early June! it’s a gorgeous listen, with a luscious guitar melody lacing the track, complimenting Ellysse’s vocal expertly, and her balance with Bonfire Tide vocalist David is a fantastic pair. it’s a real delicate, intimate atmosphere, and the lyricism is quality, painting a picture superbly. the flow of the track is expert, building ever so softly, yet feeling like a real journey – well worth checking out!

Manchester alternative-rock outfit MALCOM have just released their new single “Aeroplane“! they’ve been making a name for themselves over the past year, performing across Manchester with their no-nonsense indie/alt blend, and this song boasts a real attitude, a real drive behind it, expert lyricism, and a real catchy chorus that’s bound to be a proper singalong. it’s well worth checking out – an essential for any Manchester-based indie/alt listener!

we’ve covered Cuties’ tunes a bunch in the past, and we love their feel-good blend of indie rock, emo and alternative tunes – this new single “Swoon” is another fantastic tune under their belt. it’s got a real upbeat vibe, quality musicianship present in the track, real heartfelt and passionate lyricism, alongside a real singalong feel to it all. it’s got a fantastic bridge too, with an almost effortless build, that really sets up the final outro and ensures them as a must watch band for 2025.

it’s been yet another fantastic month, with so many amazing songs coming out; plus, so many that we didn’t cover – thanks to everyone who has checked this out, and we hope you enjoyed it! 🤘
