The Wrap: June 2024 ✨

we’re back with our newest edition of our The Wrap feature, with reviews of some of our favourite releases from last month, June 2024! 🌮 another incredible month of music, with so many amazing tracks being released – here’s just a few of our favourites! you can find all of our reviews below! ⬇️

Grimsby’s alternative-indie rockers HEALER have just released their latest single “War“! They’ve garnered a bunch of attention since their formation in 2022, from across the country – and their music proves how deserved they are of it. This new single flows almost effortlessly, mixing indie-rock anthemic singalongs with intricate storytelling – fantastic to see. There’s a lovely build in the track, starting out in a simple manner, and growing fiercer to create a huge atmosphere, whilst maintaining a great sense of dynamic, proving the band’s talents as musicians – a brilliant track!

Folk troubadours Lo-fi Jones have just dropped their brand new single “Bad Technology” – immediately starting with a gorgeous groove within the track, an intimate atmosphere that feels super personal with the listener, letting you hang onto every word, with raw and comedic lyricism that holds a sense of unease, an underlying dread within the lyricism, but put across expertly. It’s a lovely track, with a fantastic use of instrumentation, each part plays in perfect harmony with one another and compliments the track so well. A lovely listen!

We’ve covered Alan Caruso’s tunes a bunch in the past, and we love his alt-country vibe, with a deadpan delivery and stark direct lyricism – this is only continued in this new single “Disappointed“! With a real country-esque feel, a driving bassline that lays the foundation alongside the drums superbly, a lovely guitar riffing throughout, it feels light and airy, giving the main vocal ample space to take command – ensuring the listener is fixated on the lyricism, to hear Alan’s storytelling in full force. Great stuff!

Manchester folk-stress Hazel Genevieve just put out her brand new EP “Inherit The Earth“! It’s a gorgeously delicate and intricate release, with intensely luscious atmospheres present in each track – the instrumentation of piano, guitar, viola and more only serves to create a lovely soundscape behind Hazel’s vocal, in which she flows effortlessly over each of the songs, delivering her story in an expert manner, raw and passionate lyricism found throughout – a gorgeous listen, well worth checking out!

Manchester’s indie rock outfit BAYBOARDS have returned with another new single “How I Wish I Was Cool“! they’ve been super busy this year, this is their fourth release of 2024 and it’s yet another banger. their anthemic, singalong choruses are incredible to hear, and with raw authenticity oozing from their lyrics, maintaining a personal element yet still writing songs that are easily relatable – fantastic! the track sounds gorgeous, a huge atmosphere behind it, with lovely instrumentation forming a massive sound, gorgeous synth sounds complimenting the guitarwork – yet another incredible single!

we’ve known Nat Dempsey for a long time now, having had him on plenty of gigs and covered a load of his previous tracks – and this new single “Everyday People” sounds amazing! we love Nat’s songwriting ability, his innate talent to write a relatable and down-to-earth tune, and his songs have only gone from strength to strength. this new track is lovely, it’s a got gritty and upbeat vibe to it, and it flows so well. the guitar solo is lovely, the production on the track perfectly compliments itself – fantastic to listen to, and we can’t wait to hear more!

another familiar face on the Manchester scene, Norrisette has just released their track “All The Same“! taking a touch more of a band / indie approach, compared to the more art-pop or electronic elements of their previous work, it flows so smoothly throughout the length of the track; building so well from a piano and vocal through to a huge atmospheric dancey vibe, returning to that electronic element we previously mentioned – it’s a gorgeous balance of the two approaches, and works perfectly, split superbly down the middle and utilising the best of each to create something that sounds truly unique.

we’ve had Sam Leyden perform for us a fair bit, and his impact on the Manchester scene was incredible; his new single “I Practice Writing Suicide Notes” here sounds absolutely gorgeous. an intricate and personal track, his vocal and piano compliment him so well, a delicate balance that is only further accentuated with the addition of the light percussion in the first verse – maintaining that personal element superbly. it’s his debut single, a fantastic release that shows the emotion and passion that he puts into each of his songs – we can’t wait to hear even more.

it’s been yet another incredible month of music, with so many fantastic releases, and there’s a whole plethora of talent out there that we didn’t get to cover! thanks to everyone who has checked this out, and we hope you enjoyed it! 🤘

Just The Crust 15/07/24: Vienna – Ratatouille! I hardly know her… ☀️

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Midlands-based emo outfit Vienna, “Ratatouille! I hardly know her…” out this Friday! 💥

their third single, it follows the success of their first two, which established them as ones to watch on the Midlands scene, and having garnered a bunch of attention with these releases, alongside a load of live performances, they’re back with a belter 👊

this new single sounds fantastic, expanding excellently on the mid-west stylings of their earlier work, with a more direct and polished shine to the sound of the track – the guitarwork in the introduction is luscious, with some gorgeous melodies in there, and it expands out into the main riff of the track with a ferocious energy; it really proves the energy and passion put into this track. 🌙 the guitar tones sound mega throughout, and the rhythm section perfectly compliment them, giving the main vocal ample room to command the listener’s attention with a direct and powerful force, ensuring the audience hang onto every word of theirs, with great lyrical storytelling, you can tell that there’s real passion put into every sentence – an incredible listen! 🎧

Just The Crust 08/07/24: Mad By Mourning – Black Car 👊

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Mad By MourningBlack Car“! 👊

we covered their previous single last year, “Creature Of Habit“, and we were astounded by their gothic, industrial sound – yet infusing a range of various influences, to truly create something that they can call their own – you can hear punk, metal, emo and chock-full of lyrical ingenuity, catchy hooks; it truly set them as ones to watch! 😊

this new single begins in a more moody, darker vein compared to the previous, with a riff heavy, distorted atmosphere in the opening stage – it gives a load of room for the main vocal to take command in the first verse, demanding the listener’s attention – utilising the soundscape effectively, and with a fantastic, catchy and lyrically adept chorus – they’ve only gone beyond our expectations for this one. the grunginess and heaviness of the track is perfectly balanced with the more atmospheric elements of it, a lovely use of dynamic and contrast – fantastic to see, well worth a listen!! 🎧 (also with a luscious guitar solo too!)

REVIEW: Simon Hirst – “Let Love Happen” EP 🎶

we’re stoked to be able to bring you a review of the brand new EP “Let Love Happen” from the amazing Simon Hirst! Hailing all the way from New Zealand, this is his second EP following a strong set of releases, including his debut album, his first EP “How Far Away Home Is” and an incredible run of singles.

the EP opens with the alternative-rock bluesy number “Say What You Want“, with a huge riff from the get-go, an upbeat and energetic track that sets the direction right from the start, with 70’s-esque musical styling, indie-rock fusings and intricate and direct songwriting! it’s an incredible opener to the EP, with anthemic and punky elements written all over it. you can also see the variation and dynamic style that Simon has within his music, with the contrasting settings of the next tracks..

following up with the dreamy and atmospheric feel of “Let Love Happen“, the title track of the EP, there’s a real introspective mood to this tune, bringing the vibe down to a more moody, intricate setting – a reflective track upon the notion of romance and love. the guitar lead melody in the break is gorgeous, a dreamy tone that really sets the stage for the sound of this track. you can hear the passion and raw feeling he puts into his lyricism here, baring all for the track, and this is matched by the guitarwork, the melodies and atmospheres of each song – fantastic to see. this follows up with the more intricate “Give It for the Right Thing“, an acoustic ballad, which only proves the lyrical ability of Simon’s music, and his diverse musical talent.

We Were Right” is a gorgeous finale to the EP, a really delicate number that feels so much more intimate and calmer than the previous tracks – it’s real proof of Simon’s dynamic in his music. incredible to see, a lovely listen and well worth checking out. we’ll have Simon perform for us on Monday the 8th of July at the Flour & Flagon as our feature artist – come on down and don’t miss out on what’s sure to be an incredible night of music!

we’ve had Steve perform for us a bunch of times now, recently at Low Four Studio in April and they always blow us away with their high-energy passion-fuelled sets, their raw and intricate songwriting and stage presence – it’s always worth catching them live! 👊

this new track is a proper indication of their talent, an upbeat heavy tune, lots of folk-punk atmosphere to it – and a moody, dark guitar riff, yet Steve’s vocal commands attention, with raw and emotive lyricism, baring all upon the page; and delivered in their signature no-holds-barred fashion, giving it their all throughout the track. an incredible track, well worth a listen! 🎧

this new single “Poitín” sounds unreal, a lovely atmospheric vibe and super droney, as Quentin’s vocal commands the attention of the listener – there’s an incredible build in this song too, slowly unravelling to the chorus that’s a real earworm. there’s a lovely rock and roll element to it, but it’s got so much alternative and grungey influence; a real unique sound to it and a fantastic show of their talent. 👊

The Wrap: May 2024 ✨

we’re back with our newest edition of our The Wrap feature, with reviews of some of our favourite releases from last month, May 2024! 🌮 another incredible month of music, with so many amazing tracks being released – here’s just a few of our favourites! you can find all of our reviews below! ⬇️

Swansea-based indie-rock outfit Subterrania have just dropped their their single “Knows Me Too Well“! After performing across the UK at multiple gigs, festivals, and off the resounding success of their previous tracks, they’ve smashed it with this new one. Lots of Madchester vibes in there, a sense of psychedelic influence, and it’s a good old no-nonsense indie tune. The track still feels new and fresh yet touches greatly on the 90’s reminiscence – lots of guitar solos throughout and great rhythmic elements; a fantastic feel-good track that anyone will be able to enjoy.

We’ve covered Isaac Neilson’s tracks a bunch in the past, we love his tracks, and we’ve had him perform for us a bunch too, with fantastic stage presence, great lyricism and upbeat and energetic vibes throughout – this new single “The Fight Within Us” is a perfect embodiment of it all! There’s a lovely jarring lead guitar riff throughout, that feels slightly off, yet still holds together so well – and the drumwork in the back gives the track a fantastic rhythm, and the bass accentuates it further, giving the track so much room to breathe, and for Isaac to take control with his powerful vocal, commanding attitude and intricate lyricism. A great tune!

Here at the label, we’re absolutely huge fans of Sugarstone – having not only had them perform for us at our On The Irwell festival but seeing them plenty of times, and they always know how to put on an absolutely astounding show. Their tunes are genre-defying, energetic, lyrically adept and thoughtful; being able to produce something fresh and new every single time. This new single “In Tatters” sounds fantastic, with a gorgeous riff leading the way, the lead vocal commanding the track, the rhythm elements in perfect unison to lay the foundation – and that synth at the end feels so nasty and intense but lifts the track perfectly for the climatic ending. Unreal as ever!

We had Rose Oleria perform for us last year at our headline with Scatterchild, and we were blown away by her stage presence, her ability to encapsulate an audience – her new single “Stranger” here only exemplifies that ability. An intricate, gorgeous track with a huge atmosphere behind it, a lovely interaction of pianowork and guitarwork creating a luscious space for her vocal to control the listener’s attention. With honest, raw and direct lyrics, and her vocal capabilities are on full show here; what a voice and what a talent. The dynamic of this track only compliments her songwriting skills, rising and falling perfectly to really prove the quality of the tune. Incredible to see!

Dream-pop extraordinaire Hannah Robinson has just returned with her brand new single “I’m Sorry I Let You Down“! We had her perform for us at The Castle in the past and we were amazed by her effortlessly cool grungey shoegaze vibes, unleashing a horde of dreamy tunes upon the crowd – such an incredible songwriter and her band working in perfect unison to give them a lovely atmosphere. This new single is fantastic, touching way more on a 90’s alternative vibe but still maintaining the atmosphere of her previous tracks – it’s got a lovely groove behind it and it’s a proper intimate tune, with raw and passionate lyricism – plus with a luscious soundscape, an incredible breakdown and a proper singalong chorus.. we can’t wait to hear even more.

We’ve known Mathew Kerry for a real long time now, having been acquainted with his music for a good number of years; he’s not only an incredible songwriter but an all-around lovely chap. This new release “The Shawton Suite” from him is gorgeous, we heard a track or two from it when he played for us in March, but the release oozes authenticity, intimacy and rawness – you love to see it. His lyrical melodies, use of language and lyricism is second to none; he can string together a gorgeous line so easily. There’s a lovely range of vibes on this, ranging from a more sombre tone to more feel-good and upbeat; his songwriting capability and talent is on full show here, a fantastic listen.

We’ve loved each and every one of Tallulah Guard’s releases so far, having had them perform for us a bunch and them play alongside some of our favourite Manchester artists – their new single “All The People I’ve Been” is an incredible show of their talent. It’s an incredibly emotional and raw track, dealing with identity and their desire to be seen for who they are; the lyricism throughout this is absolutely unreal, a direct and passionate tune that will make anyone empathise with their feelings. With lovely vocal melodies, a fantastic singalong chorus and just a proper sense of realness through it – this track is a fantastic indication of how incredible Tallulah’s music really is.

When Luc Garrett performed his headline show for us last year, we were blown away by the effortless connection that him and his band had, weaving melodies and linking up throughout every bar of every song – this new single “Hold On” is a gorgeous show of all of that. We were huge fans of his previous tunes, and he’s gone even further with this one – with a gorgeous atmosphere to the track, elevating his intimate and raw lyricism, his soft and gentle vocal commanding the space, each instrument working in perfect harmony to create a dreamy soundscape, a real sense of calm and bliss can be found in this track and we’re massive fans of it. Brilliant to listen to!
