Just The Crust 19/09/22: Full Billy – All I Ever โ˜€๏ธ

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Preston’s own Full Billy “All I Ever”! ๐Ÿค˜

these guys have been making waves since they formed, we had them perform for us at our Toasted gig at the Grafton Arms and they smashed their set – proper talented chaps. โ˜€๏ธ

continuing from the huge sound of their debut single “Power Couple”, they’ve only expanded on their style of huge drums, powerful riffs and catchy, massive choruses – this new single sounds fantastic and we imagine it’s gonna be a belter live. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

it opens up with a massive wall of sound, lovely guitar riffs weaving their way around the rhythm section and then suddenly drops into an intimate and delicate verse that commands your attention – only to build so well with arpeggios, hard-hitting rhythm and suddenly exploding into the chorus with a wall of distortion that really forces its way into the forefront of the track. ๐Ÿ˜Ž the bridge is laced with huge vocals, really showing off Joe’s vocal ability, before leading into a lovely melody-stricken outro that reinforces how tight these lads are as a band.

another incredible release for them, we can’t wait to hear even more from the band! you can find it over on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/artist/1jfblnenN2GuVgEpD3Nacq… – also available on all streaming platforms!

Just The Crust 12/09/22: Gideon Foster – Days of Gold โšก๏ธ

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Gideon FosterDays of Gold“, out last Friday! ๐Ÿค˜

Gideon’s a great friend of ours, having performed for us plenty of times at gigs and open mics and he always gives it his all – with carefully constructed songs, such great songwriting embedded in them all and a real lovely chap – we’re huge fans of his songs, what a talent! โ˜€๏ธ

with already a top catalogue of tunes under his belt, he’s returned with this new single “Days of Gold” which only expands on his sound – we’re huge fans of the soundscaping enveloping the track, almost an eerie and unsettling intro until it opens up into the chorus with a real catchy hook; it’s a fantastic example of his songwriting ability. ๐Ÿ‘Š

it then feels almost like an indie-rock track with the drums providing an upbeat rhythm to it, giving the track an intensity that contrasts the earlier verse super well. the outro combines the two feelings of the track incredibly, keeping that faster tempo whilst maintaining some feel of eerieness to it – it’s such a well-crafted tune and one that Gideon should definitely be proud of having under his belt ๐Ÿ˜Ž

you can find it over on all the streaming platforms, or check out the full video over on his YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pHIBupldD8๐Ÿค˜ fantastic to see such quality coming out!

A year of Calendar Girl! ๐Ÿ“†

today also marks the ONE YEAR anniversary of “Calendar Girl” by Olivia Browse ft. Szou!! ๐Ÿค˜

this marked a *slight* change of pace for the label, putting out a brand new genre but we absolutely love the tune, and Olivia’s constant attitude of not being defined by a singular style or genre is one of the things we love most about her. โค๏ธ another in a fantastic line of releases from Liv! plus, Szou smashed the feature, it’s a proper banger oozing with talent. โšก๏ธ

The Wrap: August 2022 โœจ

we’ve got our August edition of The Wrap for you guys โœจ over the past month, we’ve seen a huge amount of incredible tunes being released, such a fantastic variety up North as well – so many bands and acts smashing it with their new music. we’ve collected a few here and reviewed them for you, check it all out below! โฌ‡๏ธ

Manchester-based indie-pop outfit Casinos have just released their debut single “No Longer Eighteen“! Right from the get-go, the track explodes into action with a huge sound, synth leads and huge rhythm – as it delves into the verse, it drops to make way for lead singer Matt’s vocal to fit perfectly above the instrumentation. With a hugely catchy chorus of the trials and tribulations of youth, we’ve had this on repeat all month! Astounding production on this as well from Red City Recordings, the tune sounds absolutely massive and compliments the sound of the band so well. We can hear this one being blasted out in 42s and other indie venues in Manchester – fantastic songwriting from the lads here, they’ve got an absolute banger for their first release and we can’t wait to hear even more! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Liverpool’s own self-proclaimed “pop-punk princess” Kerry Feeney has just released her brand new single “Narcissist“! We loved her previous releases, having such a huge sound and unique style behind her music, constantly putting out songs with such an attitude and force driving them. This new tune only continues her tradition, full of passion and power – immediately opening the track with a huge drum fill that drops right into a huge wall of distortion, and as soon as Kerry’s vocal comes in she commands the direction of the track so well – delivering the emotion conveyed in the lyrics perfectly. The chorus is huge, her voice is incredible here and such a catchy chorus. The bridge is a perfect parallel to the rest of the song, giving the track so much room to breathe only to open back up into a huge middle eight that precedes the final chorus that we can only imagine would absolutely go OFF live. Yet another brilliant release under her belt! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Leeds’ own Happy Families have just released their debut EP “Nowhere At All“! Throughout the entire release, gorgeous melodies and harmonies create a lovely soundscape for the EP – the main vocal sits so well above it all and sounds so beautiful as well. The acoustic guitar melodies almost tell a story within themselves, with delicate finger-picking defining the atmosphere, which perfectly balances to the vocal harmonies throughout the tracks. The use of percussion is perfect as well, being used dynamically to bring the lyrics to life, and in addition to this, the strings and other instrumentation used are the perfect icing on top of the songs. Well worth a listen – our favourite is the opener “Nowhere At All“, but it’s a fantastic debut release throughout. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Glasgow’s Pizza Crunch is back with yet another single, a vast alt-rock banger “Romanticised Past” which sounds epic. The track starts off incredibly, feeling like they’re in an airspace hanger with such a great use of reverb and space, only to open up and flow comfortably into the first verse of the track. We’re massive fans of Pizza Crunch’s guitar riffs and this one is easily one of our favourites, soaring seamlessly above the track with a beautiful warm tone to it. The vocals sound fantastic, utilising a contrast in the verse to really balance out the feel – and you can easily tell the balance are so tight, so in touch with one another when they play; it’s conveyed so well on this tune. The use of delays and space throughout the song is on point, it adds so much to it all and is a great addition to the soundscape. Well worth listening to, plus their entire discography is incredible as well! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Manchester-based electro-punks Sugarstone set the bar with their previous single “That’s Intense“! We caught them live back in June and they blew us away with their high-energy, explosive stage presence and massive tunes so we were super looking forward to this tune. And man, it does not disappoint! Blending electronic synths and drums with punky, distorted guitar riffs and huge basslines, it creates a gorgeous atmosphere that balances the blend of genres so well – an absolutely massive tune that would inflict serious damage when played at full volume. Catchy hooks and chaotic breakdowns define these chaps – if you’re looking for a fantastic live band, get down to one of their gigs! Incidentally, their brand new single “Happiness is Hard To Find” has also dropped today so even more for you to feast upon! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Singer-songwriter Rosalind Joy, based on the outskirts of Manchester, has just dropped her EP “summer“! She’s performed for us a few times now and she’s captured the essence of her tracks so well in this release – opening up with “weeird“, a synthy dream-pop track with such a lovely groove behind it, gorgeous melody lines and fantastic vocals from herself, it’s a fantastic summery track with such personal and honest lyricism, the vocal harmonies throughout sound incredible and a great way to open up this EP. “Make Me Fall” gives way to a dancey track which sounds fantastic, maintaining her singer-songwriter roots whilst the production provides a lovely electronic element behind it, to create something that’s really her own sound. This is continued in the last track, culminating in a release that not only sounds lovely, but gives a breath of fresh air with such a unique style that Rosalind can really claim as her own! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester’s own gutter punks The Battery Farm have returned with their latest single “A Working Class Lad“! We’re huge fans of these guys, their previous releases are brilliant with such a huge sound – and if you’ve had the luxury of catching them live, they translate it so well upon the stage. The songwriting on this track is superb, giving a real socio-political commentary yet utilising simplicity throughout it all. We love to see it! Not only that, the guitar riffs, the massive walls of distortion, the rhythm sections’ explosivity, the ferocity of the vocals… it’s a huge track from the lads, absolutely fantastic with so much power and energy unleashed from the tune. Class stuff! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

Indie-rockers The Ruby Tuesdays have put out their latest single “She’s Got You“! Immediately erupting into the start of the track with huge drums, driving basslines and a huge guitar lead – it sounds fantastic already within the first few bars. As the guitars make way for the first verse, the vocal glides so effortlessly over the tune, as it goes into the pre-chorus it builds and builds only to explode right into the chorus, a super catchy and huge hook that we can imagine would be belted right back at the band in a live venue. The main riff is gorgeous as well, leading the track and directing its manner, whilst each and every other instrument only compliments it and show off the capacity and talents of the band. Well worth a listen, brilliant stuff! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

one of the best ones yet! so so much amazing music out, it’s absolutely incredible to see such a storrm of fantastic talent doing their thing and unleashing their creativity into the world. it’s always so great to see such a top variety, it shows how diverse and brilliant the local scene is. we love to see it! we hope you’ve enjoyed this as much as we have – big love to everyone who’s checked this out. โค๏ธ

Just The Crust 05/09/22: Andrew Bradley – Sleepwalking โ˜€๏ธ

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Andrew Bradley “Sleepwalking” which came out last week! โšก๏ธ

this is the first single from his new album and it sets the stage for it so beautifully – a really well-crafted song, so much detail in there, you can really tell how much care and attention has been put into every aspect of the song here.

the song starts with an indie-rock jangly feel, yet as it drops into the verse it becomes almost ethereal, with a huge dream-pop atmosphere with the spacey keys, Andrew’s vocal gliding softly across the top of the instruments and just a real lovely soundscape of gorgeous tones here. as it opens up, it shows the real sensitivity and intimacy conveyed by the lyrics and puts him as a songwriter who is able to not only conjure up fantastic imagery with his words, but also puts his feelings and emotions directly on his sleeve for the listener to connect with. ๐Ÿ˜Š

we absolutely love this track, it’s a real pleasure to listen to and as we stated before, it’s been crafted so well, the production is on point – definitely a tune to pop on when you’re up for a nice relaxed time. not only that, we’ve heard the album in full as well, and you guys are in store for a gorgeous listen, so many fantastic tracks – easily a 4/5 star release from the North-East based songwriter. ๐Ÿค˜

you can find the single over on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/artist/4ZfHFHGsVvhwLJxYR9E7Nu – give his page a like to keep up to date with the album and more from Andrew! ๐Ÿ˜Š well worth a listen to the full track.

Just The Crust 29/08/22: Hayden J Barlow – Night Combat ๐Ÿ—ก

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Hayden J BarlowNight Combat” out this coming Thursday 1st Sept! โšก๏ธ

we’ve covered plenty of Hayden’s music in the past and had him perform for us a bunch, an incredibly talented chap with so many tunes under his belt. it’s well worth catching him perform at a gig, his guitar work is incredible and with such a fantastic voice on him too. ๐Ÿ‘Š

this new single has him delving into more punchy, rock-driven music yet with the lovely electronic production that we saw on his earlier releases – following the feel and atmosphere of his previous two singles “Breakaway” and “persona non grata” of which we loved both of them! โ˜€๏ธ throughout the track the atmosphere is perfectly portrayed within his vocal delivery, really putting the listener in his shoes and relating so well.

the chorus is absolutely huge, with massive harmonies, distorted and autotuned backing vocals which only add to the massiveness of the track. a real testament to his production talent and musical ability – definitely one to check out, another in a long line of fantastic releases from him. ๐Ÿค˜

Just The Crust 22/08/22: Mort Jardin – Dead Season โšก๏ธ

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new release from the Manchester grunge outfit Mort JardinDead Season“! ๐Ÿค˜

we’ve covered these guy’s previous releases a bunch now and we love their melodic, grungey tones that are present all the way through their tunes. their previous releases really set the tone for their music with introspective lyricism, monotonous vocals that really set the mood for their music. ๐ŸŒ›

this latest release sees them open up their sound somewhat, with some less distortion-y backdrops, yet still maintaining their original sound with huge guitar solos throughout and a real tight rhythmic background to tie the songs together! ๐Ÿ‘Š this is some of their best work yet, you can see the evolution of the band through their releases and this is well worth a listen for any fans of alternative and heavier tunes.

you can find the full release over on Spotify at https://open.spotify.com/album/2MIHIa5ESCsvlMWZGM6CfK – there’s also some lyric videos over on YouTube to have a gander at as well. great stuff!

Just The Crust 15/08/22: Jacob Reddy – Brand New โ˜€๏ธ

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the latest single from Jacob Reddy Music “Brand New”! โ˜€๏ธ you could say it’s… brand new ๐Ÿ˜†

we’re huge fans of Jacob’s music, blending pop, indie and rock in such a unique way to create a top sound for himself – plus, having collaborated with Novustory on the last tune he’s going places and making waves! class stuff from the young Lancastrian lad. ๐Ÿค˜

this new tune expands on his sound, with a real fantastic knack to songwriting, being able to create a great hook whilst maintaining introspective and intricate lyricism that can really resonate with the listener. the upbeat nature of the track lends itself so well to the feel of the song, we can proper imagine this one being a great singalong one. ๐Ÿ˜Š the gang vocal in the final chorus also gives it such a pop-punk feel, showing so much inspiration to his music and how he’s able to take from different sources to create!

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new album “Love Songs and Laments” from Blacksheeplad! ๐Ÿ‘Š

we’ve covered Phil’s music a load now and his relaxed, introspective songs are lovely to listen to – many of his songs are about his personal experiences and it’s lovely to hear them! we’ve had him perform for us a few times and it’s always great to have him on. ๐Ÿ˜Š

this new album, released through Wobbly Music, only expands on his great collection of songs – you can really hear the progression and evolution of his songwriting, with songs like the opener “Homeland” which is a calm and mellow tune about his childhood town, and then the eerie and haunting sound of “Pantomime” with violins and more of a full band sound behind Phil and his ukulele. ๐Ÿ‘Š it’s a real great listen and well worth checking out!
