our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single “Bound In Chains” from the Birmingham-based songwriter Aurora Rays 
right from the get-go, the track invites you in with a calm and steady piano melody, creating a sense of ease for Aurora’s vocal to sit perfectly above. her vocal capabilities are on full show here, sounding incredible – and as the track opens up into the chorus, the drums give it a real feel of urgency, complimenting the lyrical content here super well. in the latter part of the track, there’s a real gorgeous show of all the instrumentation working in tandem with one another to reflect the ferocity of the song, with a huge final chorus and a beautiful conclusion at the end.

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Champagne On The Rocks UK “Golden Hour“! 
we caught these guys live last year or so and were amazed by their energetic stage presence and slick lyrical ability, and their debut single “Malibu” sounds fantastic – this new tune only expands on their talent! 
led by a lovely melodic guitar pattern, paired with a country-esque lead riff – it sets a gorgeous backdrop for the calm and composed main vocal to sit above. the relaxed atmosphere is a lovely breath of fresh air in a music scene that often relies on heavier elements to keep the energy going, and the lyricism on this is lovely, a real outburst of feeling and emotion. as the track progresses, the drums give it a new element of energy without taking away from the relaxed atmosphere of the track, and it sounds fantastic. well worth a listen!

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Daniel Darley “To Feel Love Closer” out this Friday!
we’ve caught Daniel performing a bunch across Manchester over the course of the last year or so, and even had him on a few gigs ourselves – we were huge fans of his debut single “Faking” and his cool, calm and collected stage presence. 
this new song only shows off his talent, and captures his live atmosphere perfectly – laden with gorgeous vocalwork, and a beautiful soundscape behind him, it shows off not only his vocal ability, but his talent to be able to craft a beautiful song. the feeling of the track is relaxed, yet maintains an eerie state of tension throughout as it builds – and you can hear all sorts of influences in the track, yet it’s come to be something that Daniel can truly call his own. one of our favourites from him so far!

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the new full-length album from Bay Bryan “The Meadow“! 
we’ve caught Bay perform a bunch of times now, and they are always astounding, able to hold the audience in the palm of their hand; with well-written and carefully constructed tracks, and a controlled and expertly delicate live presence, we always love catching Bay play at gigs.
this is their first full release, and it perfectly captures the atmosphere that they convey live – it’s a gorgeous and super easy listen, with beautiful soundscapes enveloping the tracks, it really feels like you’re in Bay’s story and they’re detailing every aspect of it perfectly, with the strength of the storytelling and songwriting throughout. there’s waves of serenity throughout, and the songs feel so inviting – it’s a super gorgeous release packed with dynamic intensity, still calmness and production value that is second to none. we’ve heard some of the singles in the past, but in the full context of the album they’ve only got stronger – there’s a fantastic flow to the release that only accentuates the skill conveyed throughout each track.

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Jacob Reddy Music “Wear The Crown“!
a familiar face on the North West scene, Jacob played a headline show at The Deaf Institute at the start of the year – we went down and were seriously impressed by his tunes and ability to keep a crowd entertained. we love his songwriting style and he’s been making absolute waves over the past few years!
this new tune sounds proper mega, really showing off his prowess as a songwriter, and his ability to convey his emotions into lyrical form whilst maintaining a lovely prose to it all – the feel of the track is super upbeat and it flows so well, a lovely groove behind it and really translating his live energy into a studio setting. the track is anthemic, real lovely singalong atmosphere to it; whilst with a real optimistic attitude behind it too! great stuff.

our feature for this week’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Scott and The Flying Kicks “Want Me Dead / Growing Old“!
we’ve covered a whole bunch of his music in the past, and his EP last year was fantastic, a great collection off tracks that really show off his songwriting prowess. since then, he’s put out a string of fantastic singles that only solidify his ability as an artist – great to see.
this new single is a continuation of his solid musical capability – with a lovely guitar riff leading the track, and a strong rhythmic element grounding the song – and his conversationalist songwriting style here really gives the song a gorgeous flow! the brass in the background towards the latter section of the song is a gorgeous addition, really giving it a breath of fresh air and keeping the track interesting.

one of our favourite bands out there, Preston-based indie rockers The Empire Police have returned with their brand new single “Northern Bones“! we’ve caught these guys live a bunch of times and they never fail to astound us with their massive tunes, incredible stage presence and energy – we loved their last few releases, some proper bangers under their belt already.
opening up in the strongest way, with ferocity all across the board; a massive guitar riff, huge drums and a driving bassline all behind Jordao’s commanding vocal – right from the get-go it’s got that infectious energy that we’ve come to expect from The Empire Police’s music. the pre-chorus takes things to a calmer point momentarily, with production perfectly poised for the track, and as it builds to the chorus it goes between so many grooves and creates such a sense of balance between the tension and the explosivity of the tune.
the chorus is a huge singalong, with a hook of “my Northern Bones can’t cope” it’s sure to be belted right back at them at gigs and the chaos that is behind it gives it such a sense of aggression and rage that were present in their previous release, “Tell England We Don’t Know“. the lyricism is spot on too, with a severe political edge and a real reflection of their views on society, with the repetitive “We beg, we lie, we steal, we cheat; Regret, repent, reprieve; Repeat, we grieve, we bleed that bittersweet” really showing off the state of life in the present. A real indication of their songwriting ability here, it’s a sombre yet realistic outlook of self-reflection and need to change, put across so eloquently. there’s so much emotion put across this entire song, through the lyricism, and the ferocity of the instrumentation, all gelling together with the production work to really create a socio-political anthem of a generation.
