our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Grey Mare, “Kevin“! 🥪
this is the second offering from the Manchester-based alternative rock outfit, after performing across the city and the release of their debut single, which garnered a great response from indie/shoegaze fans around – well worth checking out. 🙌
this new tune sounds great, with a real shoegaze and ambient element behind it – a gorgeous atmosphere behind the track. opening up with an infectious guitar melody, and hard-hitting drumwork, it sets a lovely foundation for the track; giving plenty of space for lead singer Nathan to control the track with apt lyricism, and strong vocal melodies. the lead guitar perfectly compliments the rest of the track, coming in so softly with expertly-crafted riffs. it’s a fantastic tune! ☀️
we had an incredible night yesterday down at The Dockyard for our first open mic of 2024 🙌
an amazing show of the talent on offer, a huge thank you to everyone who came down and performed for us! it’s brilliant to catch such incredible musicians doing their thing week in week out 🎶
we’ll be back with our next one at The Dockyard on the Wednesday 21st February, if you’re interested in performing get in touch via DM or email to michael@breadrecords.co.uk – only a short walk from MediaCityUK tram stop! 🍞
our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new EP from Mort Jardin “Fragile“!
we’ve covered their music a bunch in the past, having released a bunch of incredible albums and EPs over the course of the past few years, laced with grungy goodness and melodic guitar riffs throughout – lovely stuff!
this new EP only continues that trend, coming in at just over 12 minutes in total it’s full of bangers. there’s a more intimate and indie-rock feel throughout, especially on the first track, and with a more electronic and synthy feel throughout, it’s a less heavy release compared to their earlier work, but it’s still got the familiar melodic guitarwork and driving groove that we’ve come to see from Mort Jardin.
what a super night for the first of our brand new open mics at The Fitzgerald last night! 🎶
a huge thank you to everyone who came down and performed for us, and we had a lovely crowd all night who were so supportive and attentive – we love to see it. 🌙
we return on the Thursday 15th Feb for our next one – we’ve already got a great lineup in store and very limited slots left! if you’re interested in performing get in touch with michael webster or email to michael@breadrecords.co.uk 🍞
our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from VALA “On The Getaway“! 🥪
we caught them at The Deaf Institute at the end of last year and were blown away by their stage presence, the quality of their songs and their supreme musicianship – fantastic stuff. we’ve covered their previous releases a bunch and we’re always looking forward to hearing new tunes from them! 🙌
this new single sounds fantastic, taking a more lo-fi and pop sound to their music, whilst still maintaining their more indie/alternative origins – it’s a real laidback tune, with a lovely jazzy style guitar melody, waves of lead guitar enveloping the track and with a lovely mellow and conversationalist main vocal. it builds and builds throughout the tune superbly and culminates abruptly at the end – yet still making you want to go back and listen again! ☀️
our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Big Hug, “Cruellemonde De La Hi Fi“!
this new single is the first from their upcoming EP, and it sounds mega – they released their debut EP “Don’t Threaten Me With A Good Time” last year to critical acclaim, and having performed across London and surrounding areas, they’re back with their brand new release!
the new track sounds mega, with an indulgence of 90’s alternative influence, punk and emo vibes and math rock inspirations. it’s in-your-face, loud and punchy, with a lovely rhythmic element behind it, a jolty and powerful groove – and gorgeous guitar melodies and tones lacing the atmosphere of the track, giving a luscious space for the main vocal to shine through, and with lyricism relative to today – about the struggle of 9-5 jobs, the routine and disillusionment of modern society. well worth a listen!
you can find the track in full on all streaming platforms, and it’s available to purchase on Bandcamp at https://bighugband.bandcamp.com/ – along with all their previous releases! well worth checking out their discography.

Our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Watson & Lockett!
A wellspring of enthusiasm, vigour and gusto, Watson & Lockett, a folk duo based in Manchester, are back with a brand-new song ‘Quiet & Constant Companion’.
Drawing upon a variety of old staples, anchored by the duo’s knot-tight harmonies, the song barrels along at a riveting pace. Driven by shaker percussion, jangly mandolin, and strings in abundance, ‘Quiet & Constant Companion’ paints a heartfelt yet subtle picture of love, marriage, and a simple life made manifestly beautiful.
Releasing on Jan 18th, this song is paired superbly with ‘Throw Down Your Oars’. Two hits of folk perfection for the price of one! Watson & Lockett will be launching these songs at The Peer Hat, Manchester on Jan 18th.
