our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Mad By Mourning “Black Car“! ๐
we covered their previous single last year, “Creature Of Habit“, and we were astounded by their gothic, industrial sound – yet infusing a range of various influences, to truly create something that they can call their own – you can hear punk, metal, emo and chock-full of lyrical ingenuity, catchy hooks; it truly set them as ones to watch! ๐
this new single begins in a more moody, darker vein compared to the previous, with a riff heavy, distorted atmosphere in the opening stage – it gives a load of room for the main vocal to take command in the first verse, demanding the listener’s attention – utilising the soundscape effectively, and with a fantastic, catchy and lyrically adept chorus – they’ve only gone beyond our expectations for this one. the grunginess and heaviness of the track is perfectly balanced with the more atmospheric elements of it, a lovely use of dynamic and contrast – fantastic to see, well worth a listen!! ๐ง (also with a luscious guitar solo too!)
you can find the track on all streaming platforms, and there’s a visualiser available to watch on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYhj11V7-g0 – check it out! ๐

we’re stoked to be able to bring you a review of the brand new EP “Let Love Happen” from the amazing Simon Hirst! Hailing all the way from New Zealand, this is his second EP following a strong set of releases, including his debut album, his first EP “How Far Away Home Is” and an incredible run of singles.
the EP opens with the alternative-rock bluesy number “Say What You Want“, with a huge riff from the get-go, an upbeat and energetic track that sets the direction right from the start, with 70’s-esque musical styling, indie-rock fusings and intricate and direct songwriting! it’s an incredible opener to the EP, with anthemic and punky elements written all over it. you can also see the variation and dynamic style that Simon has within his music, with the contrasting settings of the next tracks..
following up with the dreamy and atmospheric feel of “Let Love Happen“, the title track of the EP, there’s a real introspective mood to this tune, bringing the vibe down to a more moody, intricate setting – a reflective track upon the notion of romance and love. the guitar lead melody in the break is gorgeous, a dreamy tone that really sets the stage for the sound of this track. you can hear the passion and raw feeling he puts into his lyricism here, baring all for the track, and this is matched by the guitarwork, the melodies and atmospheres of each song – fantastic to see. this follows up with the more intricate “Give It for the Right Thing“, an acoustic ballad, which only proves the lyrical ability of Simon’s music, and his diverse musical talent.
“We Were Right” is a gorgeous finale to the EP, a really delicate number that feels so much more intimate and calmer than the previous tracks – it’s real proof of Simon’s dynamic in his music. incredible to see, a lovely listen and well worth checking out. we’ll have Simon perform for us on Monday the 8th of July at the Flour & Flagon as our feature artist – come on down and don’t miss out on what’s sure to be an incredible night of music!

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from the incredible Arms & Hearts “Binaries“! ๐ถ
we’ve had Steve perform for us a bunch of times now, recently at Low Four Studio in April and they always blow us away with their high-energy passion-fuelled sets, their raw and intricate songwriting and stage presence – it’s always worth catching them live! ๐
this new track is a proper indication of their talent, an upbeat heavy tune, lots of folk-punk atmosphere to it – and a moody, dark guitar riff, yet Steve’s vocal commands attention, with raw and emotive lyricism, baring all upon the page; and delivered in their signature no-holds-barred fashion, giving it their all throughout the track. an incredible track, well worth a listen! ๐ง
