📆: The Monthly Spread: Issue #2

The Wrap: October 2024 🌮

we’re back with our newest edition of our The Wrap feature, with reviews of some of our favourite releases from last month, October 2024! 🌮 there’s been yet another incredible month of music, with so many fantastic tunes being released, and we’ve covered just a few of them here! you can find all of our reviews below! ⬇️

Manchester-based Alōr have just dropped their debut self-titled EP! We had them perform for us back in September and were in awe of their musicianship and chemistry on the stage, and we’ve covered a few of their singles, which led perfectly into this new EP. Their singles are a lovely start to the release, and the new tracks sound fantastic – lovely, well-crafted tunes that echo elements of indie-pop, jazz, atmospheric influences that ensure that Alōr have a real signature sound here – it’s a fantastic listen and a superb run of tracks! Well worth checking out 🤝

Indie/grunge artist Daisy Harris just released “Man of the Year“, their brand new EP! we’ve covered Daisy’s music a bunch in the past, and the grungey-songwritery elements really put it as a standout here in Manchester – tongue-in-cheek lyrics, direct songwriting style, walls of distortion and lovely dynamics set this EP as a definite to listen to. with incredible lyricism, personal and raw storytelling throughout the release, and there’s a real diy feel to the EP – it’s well worth checking out and we can’t wait to hear even more 🎶

The Click Clacks just dropped their debut album “Boo!” – another familiar face for us on the scene, we’ve had them perform for us a bunch, their direct and loud sound really sets them apart from the rest. you can hear the range of influences in the tracks, from indie, to punk, to grunge – it’s a real folk-punk album and any fans of the genre should definitely check it out. their lyricism is great here, and with direct and passionate songwriting, this really holds together the album, albeit only a guitar and a vocal throughout! 🤘

we’ve also known Arms & Hearts for a long long time now, having had them perform for us a bunch and caught them at a bunch of gigs – they’ve just release their second album “The Future Is Not Bright“! it sounds absolutely incredible, their delicate and intricate lyricism and vocal delivery perfectly matched to the guitarwork and the drum patterns behind. it really shines a light on the storytelling, and Steve’s innate ability to write a song that paints a real picture – the production on the tracks too is perfect, brilliantly levelled throughout to ensure you’re hanging onto every word, you’re captured in every beat – a brilliant listen! 🎧

Another familiar face on our reviews, Manchester indie-pop outfit Cottons have just dropped their brand new single “old skool town“! It sounds fantastic, a much more indie-rock anthem vibe compared to their previous tunes, an upbeat and energetic tune – it’s still got the tongue-in-cheek, conversationalist lyrical tone that we’re used to with Cottons’ music, and there’s a lovely dream-pop element behind the track with synths, lead guitar melodies in the atmosphere of the track – and with a singalong anthemic chorus, it’s yet another incredible release from these guys! 💥

We’ve known Jimmy Page XI for a good while now, having caught him at a bunch of gigs, listened to his music on the regular and we’re always amazed by his musical output, his commitment to the scene – he’s just put out his new single “Anti-Christ“! It’s a bit of a more darker setting compared to his previous pop-singer-songwriter releases, but it sounds fantastic – with a real groove behind the track with the full band, allowing ample space for Jimmy to take charge of the track, with intricate and personal lyricism, yet still maintaining that pop singalong element that we’re used to – proving that his capabilities are endless! 👊

Sheffield-based Matilda Shakes just dropped their latest single “Frankie“! it’s a proper heavy indie rock banger, direct from the get-go there’s a luscious guitar riff, huge drumwork and driving bass that set the foundation of the track excellently – plenty of space for the main vocal to command, and it opens up into a proper wall of sound for the chorus, with an incredible drive behind it, we can only imagine how great this one goes live. it sounds incredible, and their back catalogue is also an incredible listen too. well worth checking out! 🌙

another one of our favourites, and a band we’ve covered each and every single they’ve put out – the incredible Sad Sells have just dropped their brand new single “Sweet Lorraine“! it’s already had a fantastic reception, nearly garnering 50,000 streams already, and it’s a lovely folk-rock ballad, with a gorgeous groove behind it, luscious vocal harmonies gracing the track – it flows so freely, you can really hear how in sync every musician is on the track. it’s yet another incredible release for them, and well worth a listen – we can’t wait to see what they’ve got for us next 🤝

it’s been yet another incredible month of music, with so many fantastic releases, and there’s a whole plethora of talent out there that we didn’t get to cover! thanks to everyone who has checked this out, and we hope you enjoyed it! 🤘

make sure you head on down to open mics, gigs, support local music and arts and keep your scenes going! 😊 all music, videos and images remain copyright of their respective owners. 🍞
