Just The Crust 29/09/25: Sean Morrell – Outside Looking Away 🎶

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the new single “Outside Looking Away” from Sean Morrell! 🎶

the Manchester-based indie-rock songwriter has been making a name for himself across the city, having performed a bunch over the last year or so, and putting out a great run of singles 👊

this new track sounds mega, a real anthemic singalong chorus to it, a real signature of his sound – with lovely dynamic behind the track, he’s able to really control the flow of his music. his songwriting is honest and precise, conveying his stories in a poetic and straightforward manner, proving his ability as a lyricist, and his vocals on this sound powerful yet delicate, really lending to the strength of the track 🤝

The Wrap: August 2025 🌮

we’ve just written up our next edition of The Wrap feature for you! 🤝

with in-depth reviews of some of our favourite releases of August 2025, it’s been yet another amazing month of music on the scene – you can check out all of our reviews below ⬇️


the creative duo SKEG have just put out their debut single “Hammer to fall“! a collaboration between Hayden J Barlow and George Elsbury, they blend a variety of influences, most notably soul and rnb with gritty electronic production, to create something truly brand new and refreshing to listen to. with incredible vocal talent all across the song, real rhythm and groove behind the track and expert production, this first single is a real show of force to what they have to offer.


North-West based self-proclaimed “DIY indie punk” artist Tom Elliot has just released “Love Is A Dog From Hell“! it’s a lovely tune, with real 2000’s emo throwback vibes to it, heartfelt and introspective lyricism and singalong choruses – it’s a great listen and a fantastic followup to his previous EP. there’s a real sense of sensitivity in this track, especially lyrically, proving his ability to convey emotion and feeling effortlessly in his songwriting.


Newcastle-based songwriter Tim Gambles has just put out his single “Story Told Wrong“! it’s an incredible tune, that has a real balance of dynamic in it, going from personal and intimate to the huge and driving power of the choruses – blending indie-pop with more ferocious heavier elements, all whilst maintaining a unique sound that he’s expertly crafted. the Tasmanian-born creative has created a real catchy tune, in which you can really hear the passion that he’s put into it!


Yorkshire-based ALPINE ‘99 have released their debut single “Nothing Really Matters“! with dream-pop, atmospheric sounds right from the get-go, there’s a luscious soundscape around the track, with ethereal synth sounds, gorgeous guitar melodies and driving rhythm that only compliments his vocal, drenched in reverb yet still maintaining the attention of the listener. it’s a brilliant first release and we can’t wait to hear even more!


Liverpool’s Zara Smile has just put out their new single “Rewind“! they’ve been making waves across the North West with their previous releases, and this one is definitely one to listen to – their honest, down-to-earth and relatable lyricism, and ability to create a luscious soundscape through their music really defines them as one to keep an eye on for the future – this track sounds gorgeous, with incredible instrumentation behind it, Zara’s vocal soaring effortlessly above it, and it’s got such a lovely flow throughout the song. one to keep on repeat!


Manchester alternative-rock outfit The Bad Wires have just released their second single “Leading Man“! after the success of their debut, they’re back with another track. it’s got a real attitude behind it, with a lovely bluesy riff forming the base of the tune, and driving and powerful rhythm, there’s a real groove behind it and they’ve created a proper no-nonsense rock anthem. it’s a fantastic listen and definitely puts them as ones to watch for the future!


we’re huge fans of Ladybarn, having covered their previous releases a bunch, and they’re back with their new single “Smother“! opening up with a lovely, atmospheric element, they’ve got their signature sound to a tee – their ability to create a real groove, a spell-binding soundscape, and you can hear the chemistry between the musicians so well within this tune. they’re able to utilise dynamics incredibly, bringing the track from the calm to the storm – another fantastic single under their belts!


we met Taylor Sterling earlier this year, and his unwavering approach to creating truly personal, real music for himself was inspiring – something that is evident throughout his new album “deca.dance“! taking influence from a variety of genres, he’s really brought them together to create an infectious and grooving album – with singalong choruses, driving rhythms and erratic, interesting and drone-y synths, it’s a truly great listen and a real show of his musical journey. well worth checking out!

Just The Crust 22/09/25: rosh – grasp the nettle 🎶

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the new single “grasp the nettle” from ROSH! 🎵

we’ve covered ROSH’s music a bunch in the past, and we love the Sheffield-based songwriter’s music, with direct and poetic songwriting, lovely instrumentation behind the words and a real talent to be able to craft something that’s both unique and beautiful 🤝

this new single came out last month and it sounds fantastic – a more up-beat styling than his previous singles, drawing inspiration from a range of sources, yet creating something that he can truly call his own – his lyrics in this are quality, conveying a message of having the strength to face problems and stand your ground. it’s a real show of his creative talent and a great listen! 🎶

Just The Crust 15/09/25: The Empire Police – Wise & Well 💥

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the new single “Wise & Well” from The Empire Police 👊

a real force on the North West scene, we’re huge fans of these guys, having released a bunch of incredible tunes over the years and performed all across the UK – and we love the run of new singles they’ve been putting out recently 🤘

this new tune takes no prisoners, it’s an in-your-face tune, with driving guitars, walls of sound, huge rhythm and riffs all the way throughout. Jordao’s vocal sounds fantastic on this, really proving his ability to command the track – and with their classic no-nonsense lyricism, they’ve created not only a proper singalong tune, but one that relates to the feelings and emotions of those who may feel lost in modern society. it’s yet another incredible tune from them! 💥

Just The Crust 08/09/25: Hevelwood & HerOrangeCoat – Seasons ☀️

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single “Seasons” from Her Orange Coat and Hevelwood 🎶

we’ve covered HerOrangeCoat’s music a bunch in the past, and her delicately and expertly crafted songs are a real testament to her creative talent, and she’s been performing a bunch all across the North ☀️

this new collaboration with Hevelwood sounds incredible, with gorgeous imagery within the lyrics, they’re able to paint a real picture through their words, and the accompaniment of the banjo and cello only compliments the atmosphere of the track superbly. it’s got a really lovely groove behind the track, almost as if you’re being taken on a journey through the soundscape – an incredible tune and definitely one that you’ll be listening to over and over. 🤝

Just The Crust 01/09/25: The Cherished Times – Battle 🎶

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new album “Battle” from The Cherished Times 👊

the Blackpool-based alternative rock band have been making a name for themselves over the past two years, releasing a bunch of fantastic singles and performing all across the North 🎶

the album sounds great, with some expertly-crafted tunes, you can really hear the musicianship within the band, they’re able to connect with one another superbly – and with quality songwriting, each of the tracks tells it’s own story in it’s own way, whilst still maintaining a real connection throughout the full album. there are strong elements of classic rock influence, but with a more modern twist, really making a sound that’s unique to them – it’s a fantastic listen ☀️

The Wrap: July 2025 🌮

Liverpool-based indie folk songwriter Zara Smile is back with their brand new single “Fight Back“! with delicate instrumentation forming the basis of the track, it’s wonderfully put together to really show off their intricate and raw songwriting talent – the strings give a lovely backdrop to Zara’s vocal and it sounds mega, real proof of their talent! 


Manchester doom grunge outfit Moss Valley have just put out their new tune “Yin and Yang“, and it opens up with their signature huge riffs, heavy tones and atmospheric sound – with driving rhythm, massive guitar and bass riffs and Zara’s vocal taking centre stage, it’s another banger from them and they’re sure to be ones to watch for the rest of 2025.


A familiar face for us, the fantastic Nat Dempsey has just dropped his new single “Junk Food“! Another lovely indie-pop tune from the songwriter, it’s got an incredible atmosphere to it, with a huge chorus, driving rhythm and upbeat energy, all of which only brings his songwriting ability and talent to the forefront, a proper tune and well worth checking out! 


We’re huge fans of VALA, having covered their tunes a bunch in the past and they’ve just returned with this new single “Forever” – a lovely lo-fi offering from them, with their signature indie/lo-fi tone to it, expert lyricism, you can hear the chemistry of the band all throughout this tune. It’s a singalong one, with a catchy hook – another mega track under their belt. 


Banquet have just dropped their second single “Pains“! It opens up with a lovely ethereal atmosphere, with a real 80s post punk feel to it, giving a huge space for the main vocal to take command. There’s quality songwriting ability on display through, painting a real picture – and it’s only complimented expertly by the instrumentation, with a real dynamic balance throughout the tune. Well worth checking out! 


Another familiar face on the Manchester circuit, indie-folk artist Harriet Dagnall has just released her new single “Best Laid Plans” – it’s got a lovely intricate atmosphere right from the get-go, with a delicate almost conversational tone, her raw and passionate lyricism only proves her songwriting talent, and the stripped-back feel of the tune is expertly executed, an incredible listen and definitely one to put on repeat. 


Another of our favourites on the scene, ByWednesday have just put out their new single “MPH“! We’ve been huge fans of their previous tunes and they’ve taken it to the next level with this new one – it’s a fast-paced, upbeat tune, with their signature indie-songwriter elements, but with more guitar riffs, a real driving rhythm section and a gorgeous atmospheric breakdown. Well worth checking out! 


Liverpool indie-pop outfit Hushtones have released their new single “Stupid Things” – it’s a gorgeous tune, with lovely vocal harmonies throughout the track, matched with a driving upbeat groove behind it – and with expert musicianship and songwriting ability, this is a proper anthemic singalong tune. They’ve been making a name for themselves over the past few years and this tune is proof to keep an eye on them in the future!
