we’ve known Hayden for a good while now and we’re still in awe at his sublime guitarwork, passionate and lovely vocals and lush songwriting ability. definitely one to catch live, such a fantastic talent.

the indie-rock outfit have been on the Manchester scene for a while now, and after the release of their fantastic debut single “Looking Back” they’re back with another banger

blending indie-rock with a classic Manchester sound, the tune is chock-full of lovely guitar tones, upbeat rhythmic elements and down-to-earth songwriting and lyricism, the lads have done it again to make a fantastic feel-good tune. fantastic stuff from them!

our feature for this week’s Just The Crust is the brand new album from The Be Positives “Everything About”!

blending 70’s folk nostalgia with modern indie-rock influences, The Be Positives have created a lovely feel-good record that sounds absolutely boss. with a full listing of 11 tracks, it’s a brilliant introduction for listeners to the band – well worth listening to.

we’re loving the guitar riffs throughout, and plenty of gorgeous harmonies for you to feast your ears upon – topped with lovely songwriting that really creates great imagery and allows the listener to really connect with each of the songs!

our quick recommendations are “I Just Want To See Her”, a fast-paced almost punky number; “Dead & Gone” a calming, melodic tune that builds and builds, great use of feedback and instrumentation.. class stuff, but we recommend listening to it all in full for fans of Neil Young, The Charlatans, and Laura Marling!

following on from the success of their first two singles, The Brambles are back with another single filled with the usual flair and groove that we’re accustomed to with their music. 😊 fantastic vocals throughout, brilliant use of the sample, and a backbeat of drums and bass that drive the track throughout – it’s a fantastic tune well worthy of a listen! 🤘

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the latest single from Cottons “Breathe”!

we had these guys on a few years ago down at The Old Abbey Taphouse for a headline gig and it’s been absolutely amazing to see them going from strength to strength and evolving their sound, a real class indie-rock band here in Manchester.

their latest tune here has been out for a little while now, but they’ve just released this music video for it and we definitely recommend checking it out – the song itself is super as well, starting out nice and relaxed, building up and up throughout til it explodes into a wall of sound at the end absolutely fantastic vocals here, the songwriting gives you a fantastic story and message that they’re trying to convey and the band sounds so tight together. amazing stuff!

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new album from David Shurr “Under The Hood”! 🥪

a full-length album of twelve songs, this album truly shows off Shurr’s fantastic ability as a songwriter and an artist. 😊 blending psychedelic atmospheres with folky and indie genres, he’s able to create his own imprint on the musical scene and we love the relaxed and mellow vibes of it. 🤘

not only that, the production on the album is lovely, with expertly crafted soundscapes from the instrumentation, and Shurr’s vocals sound fantastic on this – brilliant work from all involved here. 🤠 from the relaxed and airy opener “Top To Bottom”, the album then evolves through songs like the acoustic ballad of “Never Grown” and then through to the bluesy “The Thread Connecting Us” 🌠 absolutely fantastic range of tunes whilst still maintaining his unique style.

our feature for this week’s Just The Crust is the brand new tune from the North East’s Leopard Rays

their latest song, “Carried Away” is yet another strong single from the indie rock outfit. with lovely guitar licks throughout, driving drums and basslines, matched with a fantastic vocal and quality songwriting, the tune really echoes working class indie tunes of the 2000s it’s a no-nonsense banger that you can belt out at the top of your voice at a gig!

we love the build up to that huge outro chorus, dropping away and building up and up until the finale of the track – absolutely fantastic from these chaps! definitely worth checking the rest of their singles out as well, and we can’t wait to see what’s in store for them!

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new EP from The Battery Farm

self-proclaimed “gutter punks” of Manchester, The Battery Farm have been tearing up stages for a few years now, with their energetic sets, driving tunes and formidable stage presence – they’re absolutely amazing live, every time we’ve caught them we’ve been blown away

the new EP features some of their previous singles this year, such as “Roy Keane Isn’t Real” and “When The Whip Goes Crack” – they toe the line between serious and having a laugh so well with huge, anthemic choruses and melodic and grungy build ups, these are definitely ones to watch on the Manchester scene.

one of our favourites off the new EP is “I’ve Never Been To Gorton” – a proper tongue-in-cheek tune about the different areas of Manchester, with lovely guitar melodies throughout and huge choruses lead singer Ben’s vocal sounds great on this too, showing his prowess as a vocalist – well worth a listen

our feature for today’s Just The Crust is the brand new single from Scatterchild “Tough Love”!

we’ve been a fan of Scatterchild for a while now, with their beautiful piano melodies, lovely soundscapes, Jay’s fantastic vocal ability and top songwriting this new song is yet another in a long line of great releases!

a more touching subject with this song, it deals with the harder parts of a relationship and the emotion conveyed in this track is sublime building from the start, it really pushes through the feelings that they’re trying to portray and as it travels through the track, it builds up and up til the end where it explodes into a massive outburst of energy and raw feeling! what a tune!

the debut single from the Manchester-based outfit, this is a real indication of what’s to come from them! a beautifully put-together track, reminiscent of early 2000’s indie/folk nostalgia, Bonfire Tide have created a lovely soundscape for this track with waving guitars, almost angelic vocals and a driving rhythm. definitely one to check out!
