The Wrap: April 2024 ✨

we’ve got our newest edition of our The Wrap feature, covering a bunch of our favourite releases of April 2024 🌮 there’s been so many amazing tunes coming out, and here’s just a few of our favourites! you can find all of our reviews below ⬇️

Manchester-based The Cutter have just released their brand new single “Pulling Me In“! Their music is borne of a mixture of influences ranging from electro-punk, new wave and gothic, culminating in a truly unique and atmospheric sound – utilising so many different sounds in their music, electronic and synthesised components; with droney, grungey vocal stylings over the top to truly pull it all together superbly. They performed for us at our On The Irwell festival, and their energetic live performance was a delight to see – this new single sounds absolutely boss too, well worth a listen!

A familiar face for us on the Manchester scene, Bronam has just dropped his second single “My Girlfriend Loves Adam Sandler More Than Me“! After a roaring success on his first single at the start of the year, he’s returned with another pop-punk-esque indie track, you can really hear all of his influences in this tune, ranging from metal, grunge to indie and even beyond. With hard-hitting lyrical capability, belting the lyrics at the top of his voice, a singalong catchy hook – he’s proving himself to truly be one to watch here in Manchester.

Sheffield indie-pop outfit Work in TV return with their new EP “Better Hours“! We’ve been a fan of these guys for a while now, really bringing 2000’s indie vibes to the stage, but with a more modern alternative feel – vocal harmonies throughout each track, and lead singer Jack truly controlling the space with his powerful vocal ability. Each of these tunes sound fantastic, their capability to be able to not only write a catchy hook, but to be able to use interesting and intelligent lyricism throughout all of their songs, really sets them apart from the rest. An incredible listen!

One of our favourite acts on the Manchester scene, Old Sun, New Moon have just released their new single “Hearts Change“! The inimitable duo of Tom & Ethan return, their chemistry is unmatched as ever. Tom’s lyricism is on point (as always!) here, with imaginative and emotive storytelling, delivered in such a strong and invocative manner – and matched with Ethan’s innate ability to craft a gorgeous soundscape, perfectly laying a backdrop to the song.. it sounds absolutely fantastic. The addition of the strings on top is the icing on the cake!

Manchester’s own indie-pop stars Foxglove just released their brand new single “Clouds”! we were massive fans of their previous track “Tell Me A Story” and this only exceeds our expectations from them. a grooving, electric song that feels bouncy all the way through, with a lovely tight rhythm section, jazzy and atmospheric guitarwork and all of this comes together superbly for the main vocal to soar over it, gaining the listener’s attention with intimate and raw lyricism, gorgeous melody lines, and catchy singalong hooks – another brilliant tune under their belts!

we’ve known of FEAR OF MARKO for a long long time now and we’ve always been astounded by his individualism, his unique energy that he brings to not only every track but everywhere he goes, and his ability to bend any genre to his will – his new single here “Teeth” is hard evidence of his utter talent! blending elements of hyperpop, hiphop and metal/grunge, he’s able to create an upbeat yet dynamic track, with oozes with authenticity – his ability to write a hook is second to none. the production on this is so astute, perfectly complimenting the track (as we’ve come to see in all of his tunes!) and it’s another incredible track under his belt.

we’ve been fans of Lavender Rodriguez for ages now, having loved their previous couple of singles, utilising so many influences to create something extremely unique – and their new single “Sunrise” sounds absolutely gorgeous. you can hear elements of so many genres in it, from soul, to trip-hop, to alt-pop, to rnb – it’s a gorgeous track that stands out so well in a modern world of boxing in music. Lavender’s vocal ability is on full show here, utilising luscious melodies throughout, and the production is incredible, so many individual elements coming together and feeling so fresh throughout, to create a really personal and emotive track that any listener can connect with.

we had the amazing Paul Shepherd perform for us a bunch over the past month or so, and it was an absolute pleasure to hear his tunes, an accomplished songwriter who has a natural ability to hook an audience in with effortless lyrics, lovely melodies and singalong hooks – and this new single “Time & Time Again” is truly evident of his talent. it sounds mega, and the full band sound on the record really brings out the indie-rock elements of the tune, a real upbeat and dance-y feel to it; the vocal harmonies in the chorus helping it feel bigger and bigger, and the guitar solo putting the finishing touch on a lovely anthemic tune.

The Wrap: March 2024 ✨

we’re back with our next edition of The Wrap! covering some of our favourite releases of March 2024, with so many incredible releases 🌮 you can find all of our reviews below ⬇️

Manchester’s own Run Remedy has returned with a brand new single, “Turf War“! We’re huge fans of Robin’s music, such intricate and delicate melodies interwoven into dynamic and intrinsic storytelling lyricism – feeling like you’re having a nice conversation with an old friend. Her lyrics touch on a variety of emotions, feelings, and topics, whilst feeling fresh and natural; the flow of this track is lovely, with a vibey groove behind it, and a luscious guitar pattern painting the scene, providing a gorgeous space for Robin’s vocal to take command and really entice the listener in. A must see live performer, too!

We’ve covered Strange Dream a bunch in the past, and we love their fast-paced lo-fi style, feeling like a real throwback to the psychedelic scene of the 70’s, so many lovely guitar tones thrown into their music and this new single “Lyin’ Down (Reloaded)” is no different! Kicking off with a real force, it opens up with a huge atmosphere, to drop away so lusciously into the verse, with a lovely vocal melody setting the scene; only to open back up into a real fuzzy, grungey vibe but with the brightness of the psychedelic genre that they focus on. Another incredible tune from them!

Manchester-based indie-pop outfit daisychain just released their debut single “Stay“! A lovely melodic guitar riff opens up the track, with Johnny Marr-esque arpeggiation, a bouncy and upbeat rhythm matched between the bass and drums, providing a lovely backdrop for the main vocal to take centre stage. It reminds us of folk-punk too, the more direct and personal elements of the track really give us Remember Sports and P.S. Eliot, especially with the guitar tones and the vocal timbre. A fantastic debut single, we can’t wait to hear what they’ve got in store!

We’ve been fans of ARTEMIS for a good while now, having seen him progress over the past few years, having performed at gigs and events across the city, and his sound has progressed so well and it is evident fully in his new track “The Waves“! Taking influence from acts like The National and Phoebe Bridgers, with delicate melodies and atmospheric vocals, creating a gorgeous soundscape for the backdrop to his personal and often uplifting and positive lyricism. There’s a gorgeous shimmery atmosphere to this track, feeling so intimate throughout but being so dynamic too – well worth a listen!

North East Scotland’s Sunkisst just put out their brand new album, and we love this single “Amplifier“! With a grungey, mean guitar riff solidifying the base of the track, elements of blues and punk are present throughout; it’s an upbeat tune with a whole range of influences in there. The track’s got a fantastic groove to it, and it’s dark, broody and direct, yet the chorus is open, huge and upbeat – the dynamic in the song is fantastic. Such a great track, well worth a listen!

Another act on our radar for a good while, Harry Heart just released his brand new single “Asylum“! A real force on the scene, performing a bunch and really gaining a name for himself over the past few years, and this new single is real proof of his talent. His vocal commands the track superbly, making the listener hang onto every word, with a luscious guitar melody, and fantastic production, every element coming together so well; and with backing vocals from the amazing Harriet Dagnall! He’s culminated a variety of inspirations here to really create something unique, there’s grungey elements, indie rock, pop and soul; we can’t wait to see what this year has in store for Harry.

A real familiar face for us here at the label, ByWednesday have just dropped their brand new single “Circles“! We’ve had them perform for us a bunch of times, and they always smash it; their indie-rock/shoegaze/alternative-pop stylings really come together to create something unique. This track is almost jazzy at times, and the guitar tones throughout are just simply gorgeous. You can really see the chemistry of the band in this track too, there’s such a connection between them all, everyone is perfectly placed and balanced! It’s brilliant to see, and they’ve come out here with another banger that’s sure to solidify them as ones to watch for 2024.

We’ve had Luna Marble perform for us loads now, lastly in March and they always blow us away by their passion, raw intensity and stage presence, and their original songs are incredible! This new single “Redemption” is yet another milestone for them, a gorgeous tune, luscious guitarwork, powerful and commanding vocals, a perfect balance between the two and then it’s only accentuated even further by the dynamic and groove of the rhythm section. They’re serious songwriters too, always portraying emotions and feelings in an exciting, yet serious manner, they know how to really capture a listener’s attention with expert musicianship and lovely production throughout their music. Definitely ones to catch live!

The Wrap: February 2024 ✨

we’re back with our next edition of The Wrap! covering some of our favourite releases of February 2024, with so many incredible releases 🌮 you can find all of our reviews below ⬇️

we’ve had The Internet Café perform for us a bunch over the past few years, and we love their upbeat, surf-rock styled indie atmosphere, and their brand new single “Joanna” perfectly encapsulates that! laced with gorgeous guitar lead melodies throughout, a luscious flow to the track with the intertwining of the rhythm of the drums, bass and the acoustic guitar; it creates a lovely space for the vocal to cut through and tell a story through expert lyricism. it’s a gorgeous tune, and we can’t wait to hear even more from them in the future! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

London-based Cuties just dropped their new single “Often“! cutting a fine line between pop punk, emo, pop and shoegaze, they’ve taken a load of inspirations and really created something special that they can call their own. there’s a lovely atmosphere to the track, with gorgeous guitar tones behind the main vocal that is not only effortlessly cool, but commands the attention of the listener so easily. we’re a huge fan of how the track parallels with the calmer section to the heavier outro section, becoming more technical and interesting – proving their worth as musicians in even more ways! well worth a listen. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

we’ve caught Here’s The Steeple perform a few times, and his delicate storyteller style is inspiring, and his lyrical capability seems calm and collected yet expertly exectuted. his new single, “This Machine Builds Fascists“, proves that even more – opening up with a dark yet interesting atmosphere, setting the stage for his vocal to take centre-stage; over a mellow guitar pattern – the production on the tune is fantastic, so many elements coming together, so many new phrases and melodies being introduced throughout – all whilst maintaining the main focus on his lyrical capabilities. fantastic!! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

after an incredibly strong 2022/23, Hayden J Barlow returns with a brand new single “absent minded” – his self-styled “hypersoul” elements to his tracks are still ever as present here, but he’s expanded even further, incorporating even more influences and genres to create something that’s not only upbeat and driving, but also dark, brooding and slightly moody; his lyrical tones to this is so introspective and reflective – showing another side to the songwriter/producer. his talent oozes from every part of this track, with so much going on yet everything feeling perfectly balanced and in place, it’s a real sign of his production prowess! we especially love the guitar solo. nasty. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

we’ve caught Alwyn Jones perform a few times, and had him play for us at a few gigs, and we’re always so astounded by how well his songs are crafted, the manner in which he performs them, his effortless stage presence – and his debut single “How Easily” is such a fantastic indication of exactly that. being able to capture your attention from the get-go with just his raw vocal and guitarwork, the flow of the track moving into a larger space with piano, strings, it all comes so naturally in too (the production is incredible here!); his vocal sounds so lush as well, and really gives you the opportunity to focus on his lyrics, his writing is so spot on too – painting a gorgeous picture constantly throughout the entire track. what a debut! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

we’ve been massive fans of Tallulah Guard for a good while now, having caught them perform a load over the past few years, and we loved their previous singles – and this brand new single “Into Tomorrow” sounds absolutely gorgeous! taking a much more intimate approach to this one, it feels almost like you’re having a heart-to-heart conversation with Tallulah, with a lovely guitar pattern forming the foundation of the track and Tallulah’s soft and reassuring vocal gliding so freely over the atmosphere; and as the track progresses, it flows so well with the introduction of piano, soft rhythm until it comes towards the end, with a gorgeous guitar tone and full drumwork opening up the foundation – it sounds absolutely gorgeous, another incredible release under their belt!! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

another familiar face on our radar, and one of our favourites, Walter Kocays has just released his brand new single “Explicitly, I’ve Told“! it’s a lovely, intimate track opening up with Walter’s uniquely powerful vocal commanding the attention immediately, over a flowing guitar pattern – a trademark signature for his music. his conversationalist approach to songwriting really stands him out from the rest, and the production here is incredible, the strings coming in so smoothly, the drum pattern creating a gorgeous contrast to the rest of the track – building and building so well, til it drops away for a split second until the harmonies come in and completely envelop the soundscape and open up into a luscious atmosphere. gorgeous tune! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE / BANDCAMP)

we had Ladybarn perform for us last year, and we were blown away by their musical expertise, their creative flow and the way they synced up with one another; and this brand new single “Hounds” encapsulates that fully. bringing so many different inspirations and genres to the table, the flow of the track is so smooth and the melodies of the guitar and bass compliment each other superbly, and with such tight rhythm holding the basis of it all – it’s fantastic, and it allows the main vocal to just effortlessly deliver across it all. the track breaks down, builds up, takes so many different directions but all feels so powerful and is executed excellently – a brilliant track!! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

in case you missed it, our latest The Wrap for January 2024 was brilliant! ✨ out last week!

with so many incredible releases from the talents of Sietch Pizza Crunch Isaac Neilson Kerry Feeney Black Brunswicker Lydia Prettyman BAYBOARDS and We Three Kings – it’s well worth checking out. 🙌

you can find the reviews in full on our website at https://breadrecords.co.uk/2024/02/08/the-wrap-january-2024/ – give it a read and let us know what you think! 🍞

The Wrap: January 2024 ✨

we’ve got our first edition of The Wrap for you all, our first one of 2024 covering some of our favourite releases of January! 🥪 so many incredible tunes out so far this year, and we’ve written up a few reviews of our favourite ones – you can find them all below! ⬇️

Manchester-based alternative rock outfit Sietch have just dropped their second single “I Care So Much“, taken from their brand new EP (out tomorrow)! It’s a fantastic new tune from them, filled with grungey-goodness, driving basslines and hard-hitting drumwork, brought together with powerful vocals from lead singer Miles, whose lyrical capability is not only intimate, but raw and passionate. Their 90’s influence is present throughout, but they’re able to bring it all together to create a unique sound that sets them apart from the rest. We’re huge fans of the breakdowns and breaks in the tracks, that go extra hard – and a truly gorgeous guitar solo at the three minute mark to hit home. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered Pizza Crunch a bunch over the past few years, and they’ve continuously released banger after banger, they return in 2024 with their brand new single “Advertised Enlightenment“! It still has the lo-fi, indie elements that were present throughout their 2022 album “That Serene Age” (a great listen!), yet almost takes a darker, more post-punk-esque, murky feel to it all, monotone vocals throughout, groovy and luscious guitar and bass patterns, and a steady drumwork laying the foundation for the groove of the track. Opening into the chorus, it becomes more dream-like and atmospheric, a lovely contrast to the verses. The track culminates in a dreamy guitar pattern, taking centre stage at the end and marking a true new era of music for the band. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

We’ve had Isaac Neilson perform for us a bunch before, and he astounds with his intense and direct stage presence, commanding the audience’s attention, and all of his releases have been incredible; he’s able to write a gorgeous track and we’ve been stoked to have written up a load of reviews for him. He’s just returned with a brand new single, “Flying“, that opens up with a stark contrast from his earlier releases, being more relaxed and mellow – yet as soon as it hits the chorus, it opens up into a whole new layer of catchiness, power and ferocity. It’s an incredible track, reminiscent of 90’s alternative and rock releases; even though it feels different to the past tunes, there’s still Isaac’s lyrical capabilities, his infectious motivation, and effortless talent present throughout the entire single. We can’t wait to hear more! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Another familiar face for us here on The Wrap, Warrington-based Kerry Feeney just put out her new single “Good Girl Guilt“! We love her previous singles, with heavier rock leanings, guitar arpeggios, riffs and power chords throughout, as she commands control of the track; and this new single is no different, albeit taking a much more synth-pop vibe, with a gorgeous lead melody opening up the track, yet to only drop away to a simple yet effective acoustic guitar accompanying Kerry’s vocal. The build on the verse is extra special, production is on point here, especially complimenting her vocal capabilities, she’s still commanding the track yet it feels more effortless. There’s so much space in the song, with all of the elements working in perfect unison to create something really special. We love the anthemic nature of it, the intimacy and dynamics, and it’s another incredible tune under her belt. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We had Black Brunswicker perform for us last October for our headline with Anyone’s Ghost at Lock 91, and we’re always in awe of their ability to create gorgeous soundscapes, utilising every element at their disposal, what a talent. They’ve returned with their brand new single “The Frolic“, a luscious tune that only furthers how in awe we are of their music. The guitarwork throughout is spectacular, with some incredible melodies shining through, and backed with a plethora of effects that create the perfect backdrop; there’s an incredible glitchy-style element to it that really caught our eye. As the track flows, it becomes more intimate yet so much more intricate, and we love how slowly yet effortlessly the build is, pacing along but introducing new elements, for it to come to a calm and steady end. A lovely listen, well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

We’ve been huge fans of Lydia Prettyman since she burst onto the Manchester music scene around a year or so ago, with her personal and conversationalist lyricism, her carefully picked chord progressions, and lovely vocal melodies present in her songs. She’s kicked off 2024 with her brand new single “Craft“, and you can see she really means business with this tune. First of all, the production is perfect – it compliments her style and songwriting so well, putting the focus on her lyricism; and it opens with luscious guitarwork, her vocal effortlessly taking centre-stage, drawing you in to hang onto every word. The vocal melodies throughout are incredible, placed at just the right moments, and with a soft and calming rhythm behind her, it feels as you can’t even the bass and drums were there, until the first chorus where they come in with a real force, but still maintaining the intricate nature of the track – an absolutely incredible song and we can not wait to hear more. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester-based indie-rockers Bayboards have had an incredible few years already, having sold out venues across Manchester and even their debut UK tour, proving that they are easily ones to watch for the future. They’ve started 2024 with their new single “Hannah“, a punky and hard-hitting tune, with such an infectious energy behind it, and a real sense of ferocity throughout the entire three minutes. The track comes in right from the get-go with a steady and powerful drum pattern, with a luscious bassline over the top – and the main vocal comes in and takes command of the entire track with a real sense of urgency and intensity. The chorus is a real anthemic one, perfect for a live singalong with audiences; and with a gorgeous production standpoint alongside the power of the raw track, this has proved that they’re back with a real motivation to go far in 2024. (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

We’ve covered Manchester-based punk-outfit We Three Kings a bunch over the past few years, having put out a steady flow of fantastic and energetic releases. Off the back of the success of their previous single last year, they return with the new track “Gold Digger“! The track is three minutes of pure intensity, power and ferocity – kicking off with a real raw guitar riff, and as the vocal comes in it you can tell it’s just a sense of tension until the 25-second mark when the track opens up massively with a real outburst of drums and basslines, with a real driving groove throughout, commanding vocals, a gorgeous guitar riff flowing throughout the entire track, singalong gang vocals – it’s a real banger. We can’t wait to see what the year has in store for them! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Charlie Smith returns with a brand new EP, “Southampton Sessions“! Recorded between The Joiners and Southampton University, it’s a lovely show of Charlie’s talent, with a bunch of live performances from the songwriter. His lyrical ability is on full display here, with influences from folk music and heavier aspects, such as 90s alternative and grunge – his music is direct, impactful and superbly delivered. The EP has caught his live performance perfectly and is a great listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Hallowed Men have dropped their debut album “Hollow Man“! Almost right from the get go you can hear the atmospheric nature of their music, draped in reverb and ambience – driven by powerful rhythm, psychedelic synthesisers and otherworldly vocals. With remixes, 8 minute plus tracks and powerful electronica throughout, it’s well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP)

We’ve covered Alan Caruso‘s music before and we love this new single “Tell Me You Don’t Want Me Without Telling Me You Don’t Want Me“! With his signature deadpan delivery, over a punk rock inspired indie-folk track, he’s created a real lovely tune that sounds fantastic. His conversationalist tone and direct lyricism sets him apart from the rest, and the track sounds luscious, with a real groove behind it – and a gorgeous relaxed guitar solo to match! Have a listen! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

Manchester’s own Foxglove have brought out their second single “Tell Me A Story“! Following the success of their debut, “Run“, they’ve taken a more electronic and synth-pop approach, incorporating a more dancey drum pattern, giving the track a real sense of drive behind it – and the melodies in the background are lovely, setting a fantastic backdrop for the vocals to soar over. It’s a catchy, upbeat tune, a parallel to the lyrical content – it’s well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

Manchester-based indie-pop outfit Casinos return with their second single “Fashion Girls“! Their debut came out in 2022, a huge tune that we proper loved and this new single only continues with their trend of anthemic indie-pop – with huge choruses, singalong hooks and gorgeous guitar melodies throughout. The drums give the track such a driving flow, and the guitar work sets a lovely stage for Matt’s vocal to command the listener’s attention, and with a luscious synth solo, it’s another massive tune from them. We can’t wait to see how this year goes for them! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC)

We had Liverpool-based Paul Askew perform for us late last year, and this single only proves why we were amazed by his performance. The new single “Jump The Gun” sounds incredible, a real indie-rock tune that’s driving, powerful and upbeat – it’s a luscious track. There’s waves of guitar melodies throughout, backed by a driving bassline and drums that keep the flow super steady throughout the entire track, and Paul takes charge vocally, with his singer-songwriter infused lyricism and singalong chorus. It’s well worth checking out! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / BANDCAMP / YOUTUBE)

Sheffield indie-rock artist Daz Cadwallander returns with his brand new single “DO I WANNA LEAVE“! He’s already made waves with this track, gaining over 30,000 streams on it – with a real sense of power behind the track, an almost darker style compared to his previous singles, and it’s a fantastic tune. There’s a real atmosphere to the song, that perfectly compliments Daz’s vocals – and we really love the charismatic singalong chorus, and such a strong guitar solo in the track too, really showing the chemistry of the band and the strength of the production. It’s another banger from him and we can’t wait to hear more! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)

When we had Full Billy perform for us, we were blown away by their charismatic stage presence, avid songwriting ability and powerful musicianship – the Preston-based outfit have just released their new single “Love is Dead“! The tune follows their first two singles, which have seen the band go from strength to strength; with upbeat indie-rock infusion, and fast-paced rhythm – this gives a gorgeous space for the main vocal to shine and take command with intricate and vibrant lyricism. It’s a fantastic tune, we’re sure that they’ll go far in 2024! (SPOTIFY / APPLE MUSIC / YOUTUBE)
